Psalm 141
Psalm 141
1I call upon you, O Lord; come quickly to me; give ear to my voice when I call to you.
2Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.
3Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
4Do not turn my heart to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with those who work iniquity; do not let me eat of their delicacies.
5Let the righteous strike me; let the faithful correct me. Never let the oil of the wicked anoint my head, for my prayer is continually against their wicked deeds.
6When they are given over to those who shall condemn them, then they shall learn that my words were pleasant.
7Like a rock that one breaks apart and shatters on the land, so shall their bones be strewn at the mouth of Sheol.
8But my eyes are turned toward you, O God, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; do not leave me defenseless.
9Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me, and from the snares of evildoers.
10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I alone escape.
Ezekiel 11:14-25
Ezekiel 11:14-25
14Then the word of the Lord came to me: 15Mortal, your kinsfolk, your own kin, your fellow exiles, the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, “They have gone far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.” 16Therefore say: Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far away among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a little while in the countries where they have gone. 17Therefore say: Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel. 18When they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. 19I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, 20so that they may follow my statutes and keep my ordinances and obey them. Then they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their deeds upon their own heads, says the Lord God.
22Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was above them. 23And the glory of the Lord ascended from the middle of the city, and stopped on the mountain east of the city. 24The spirit lifted me up and brought me in a vision by the spirit of God into Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen left me. 25And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had shown me.
Ephesians 4:25-5:2
Ephesians 4:25-5:225So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another. 26Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27and do not make room for the devil. 28Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy. 29Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. 31Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, 32and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.
5Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, 2and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Psalm 76
Psalm 76
1In Judah God is known, his name is great in Israel.
2His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
3There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah
4Glorious are you, more majestic than the everlasting mountains.
5The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; none of the troops was able to lift a hand.
6At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned.
7But you indeed are awesome! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused?
8From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still
9when God rose up to establish judgment, to save all the oppressed of the earth. Selah
10Human wrath serves only to praise you, when you bind the last bit of your wrath around you.
11Make vows to the Lord your God, and perform them; let all who are around him bring gifts to the one who is awesome,
12who cuts off the spirit of princes, who inspires fear in the kings of the earth.
Isaiah 66:1-13
Isaiah 66:1-13
66Thus says the Lord: Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is my resting place? 2All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look, to the humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at my word. 3Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who kills a human being; whoever sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever presents a grain offering, like one who offers swine’s blood; whoever makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like one who blesses an idol. These have chosen their own ways, and in their abominations they take delight; 4I also will choose to mock them, and bring upon them what they fear; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, they did not listen; but they did what was evil in my sight, and chose what did not please me.
5Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word: Your own people who hate you and reject you for my name’s sake have said, “Let the Lord be glorified, so that we may see your joy”; but it is they who shall be put to shame. 6Listen, an uproar from the city! A voice from the temple! The voice of the Lord, dealing retribution to his enemies! 7Before she was in labor she gave birth; before her pain came upon her she delivered a son. 8Who has heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be delivered in one moment? Yet as soon as Zion was in labor she delivered her children. 9Shall I open the womb and not deliver? says the Lord; shall I, the one who delivers, shut the womb? says your God. 10Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her— 11that you may nurse and be satisfied from her consoling breast; that you may drink deeply with delight from her glorious bosom. 12For thus says the Lord: I will extend prosperity to her like a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream; and you shall nurse and be carried on her arm, and dandled on her knees. 13As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

O Lord, so rule and govern our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that, ever mindful of the end of all things and the day of Your just judgment, we may be stirred up to holiness of living here and dwell with You forever hereafter; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. First Reading: Jer. 30:1-24
Restoration for Israel and Judah
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2"Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel:(A) Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. 3(B) For behold, days are coming, declares the LORD,(C) when I will restore(D) the fortunes of my people,(E) Israel and Judah, says the LORD,(F) and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it."
4These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning(G) Israel and Judah:
5"Thus says the LORD:We have heard a cry of panic,
of terror, and no peace. 6Ask now, and see,
can a man bear a child?(H) Why then do I see every man
with his hands on his stomach(I) like a woman in labor?
Why has every face turned pale? 7Alas!(J) That day is so great
(K) there is none like it;it is a time of distress for Jacob;
yet he shall be saved out of it.
8"And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, that I will(L) break his(M) yoke from off your neck, and I will(N) burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him.[a] 9But they shall serve the LORD their God and(O) David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10(P) "Then fear not,(Q) O Jacob my servant, declares the LORD,
nor be dismayed, O Israel;for behold,(R) I will save you from far away,
and your offspring from the land of their captivity.Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease,
and none shall make him afraid. 11(S) For I am with you to save you,
declares the LORD;(T) I will make a full end of all the nations
among whom I scattered you,
but of you I will not make a full end.I will discipline you in just measure,
and I will by no means leave you unpunished.
12"For thus says the LORD:(U) Your hurt is incurable,
(V) and your wound is grievous. 13There is none to uphold your cause,
no medicine for your wound,
(W) no healing for you. 14(X) All your lovers have forgotten you;
they care nothing for you;for I have dealt you the blow of(Y) an enemy,
the punishment(Z) of a merciless foe,because your guilt is great,
(AA) because your sins are flagrant. 15(AB) Why do you cry out over your hurt?
(AC) Your pain is incurable.Because your guilt is great,
because your sins are flagrant,
I have done these things to you. 16(AD) Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured,
and(AE) all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity;(AF) those who plunder you shall be plundered,
(AG) and all who prey on you I will make a prey. 17(AH) For I will restore(AI) health to you,
and(AJ) your wounds I will heal,
declares the LORD,because(AK) they have called you an outcast:
'It is Zion, for whom no one cares!'
18"Thus says the LORD:Behold,(AL) I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob
and have compassion on his dwellings;the city shall be rebuilt on(AM) its mound,
and the palace shall stand where it used to be. 19(AN) Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving,
and the voices of those who celebrate.(AO) I will multiply them, and they shall not be few;
I will make them honored, and they shall not be small. 20(AP) Their children shall be as they were of old,
and their congregation shall be established before me,
and I will punish all who oppress them. 21(AQ) Their prince shall be one of themselves;
(AR) their ruler shall come out from their midst;(AS) I will make him draw near, and he shall approach me,
for who would dare of himself to approach me?
declares the LORD. 22(AT) And you shall be my people,
and I will be your God."
23(AU) Behold(AV) the storm of the LORD!
Wrath has gone forth,a whirling tempest;
it will burst upon the head of the wicked. 24(AW) The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back
until he has executed and accomplished
the intentions of his mind.(AX) In the latter days you will understand this.

Second Reading: Matt. 26:57-75
Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council
57(A) Then(B) those who had seized Jesus led him to(C) Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58And(D) Peter was following him at a distance, as far as(E) the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with(F) the guards to see the end. 59Now the chief priests and the whole Council[a](G) were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60but they found none,(H) though many false witnesses came forward. At last(I) two came forward 61and said, "This man said,(J) 'I am able to(K) destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.'" 62And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"[b] 63(L) But Jesus remained silent.(M) And the high priest said to him,(N) "I adjure you by(O) the living God,(P) tell us if you are(Q) the Christ,(R) the Son of God." 64Jesus said to him, (S) "You have said so. But I tell you, from now on(T) you will see the Son of Man(U) seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65Then the high priest(V) tore his robes and said,(W) "He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66What is your judgment?" They answered,(X) "He deserves death." 67Then(Y) they spit in his face(Z) and(AA) struck him. And some slapped him, 68saying, "Prophesy to us, you(AB) Christ! Who is it that struck you?"
Peter Denies Jesus
69(AC) Now Peter was sitting outside(AD) in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean." 70But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean." 71And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus(AE) of Nazareth." 72And again he denied it with an oath: "I do not know the man." 73After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you too are one of them, for(AF) your accent betrays you." 74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed. 75And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, (AG) "Before the rooster crows, you will(AH) deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

Monday Father Reading
"Noah drank of the fruit of the vine and became drunk. Not that the vine is evil or the wine evil, but the abuse of it is evil. If it does harm, the reason is man's intemperance. Consider another case where wine was used, for by it is perfected the Material of the good things of our salvation. Those who have been initiated into the Mysteries know what I mean." [St. Chrysostom. "Homily 29 on Genesis." 5th Century]
