The Death of Abraham

KEY VERSE: "And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi," Genesis 25:11.

Robert and his family arrived back home after his father's funeral. His father had died after a long bout with cancer. The mood was somber in the house when Janice, his wife, made an announcement. She was expecting another child. One life was mourned in death and another life was beginning.

Abraham died at the age of one hundred seventy-five. Most of the exciting things happened after his hundreth birthday. Abraham had fulfilled God's plan for his life. It is now time for him to lay down his armor and go to his heavenly reward. Abraham died knowing that, through Isaac, God would keep His promise of a great nation. Abraham knew the character of his son Isaac and died in peace knowing he was God's man.

The natural tendency of man is to fight to live as long as possible. When it comes time for a person to cross into eternity, God grants him dying grace. Dying grace comes to the person who knows Jesus as his Savior. He has nothing to fear in death. Dying grace comes to the person who has given his all for God in life. He has no regrets, knowing he has done his best to do God's will. Dying grace comes to the person who knows there is a greater life awaiting in Heaven.

JUST A THOUGHT: Those who have lived for God can die with grace.
