The Coptic Book of the Prayers of the Hours
The book of AGPEYA contains the seven canonical prayers which have been cherished and practiced by the faithful Copts of the Orhtodox Church. The seven canonical prayers have their root in the Psalms. David said;"Seven times a day, do I praise you of your righteous Judgement" (Psalm 118:164).
First Hour
This hour is prayed early in the morning, and commemorates the Resurrection of the Lord (Psalm 62:1).
INTRODUCTION OF EVERY HOUR
The worshipper prays:
In the name of the Father , and the Son , and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Make us, O Lord, worthy to say with all thanksgiving:
Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, through Christ Jesus our Lord. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Let us give thanks unto the Beneficent and Merciful God, the Father of our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. For He has shielded us, rescued us, kept us, accepted us unto Him, had compassion on us, supported us, and brought us unto this hour. Let us ask Him also, to keep us this holy day and all the days of our life in all peace, the Almighty Lord our God. O Master, Lord, God Almighty, Father of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ; we thank Thee upon every condition, for any condition, and in whatever condition. For Thou hast shielded us, rescued us, kept us, accepted us unto Thee, had compassion on us, supported us and brought us unto this hour. Therefore we ask and entreat Thy goodness, O Lover-of-man, grant us to complete this holy day, and all the days of our life in all peace with Thy fear. All envy, all temptation, all the influence of Satan, the intrigue of wicked people, the rising up of enemies, hidden and manifest, take away from us, and from all Thy people, and from this, Thy holy place. But as for those things which are good and useful provide us with them. For Thou art the One who gave us the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and every power of the enemy. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, through the grace, compassion and love of man, of Thine only begotten Son, our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Through whom glory, honor, dominion, and worship befit Thee with Him and the Holy Spirit, the lifegiver who is of one essence with Thee, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
PSALM 50
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of Thy compassion blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know mine iniquity, and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee only have I sinned and done this evil before Thee, that Thou mightiest be justified in Thy words, and prevail when Thou art judged. For behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother bear me. For behold, Thou hast loved truth; the hidden and secret things of Thy wisdom hast Thou made manifest unto me. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be made clean; Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt make me to hear joy and gladness; the bones that be humbled, they shall rejoice. Turn Thy face away from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, and with Thy governing Spirit establish me. I shall teach transgressors Thy ways, and the ungodly shall turn back unto Thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; my tongue shall rejoice in Thy righteousness. O Lord, Thou shalt open my lips, and my mouth shall declare Thy praise. For if Thou hadst desired sacrifice, I had given it; with whole-burnt offerings Thou shalt not be pleased. A sacrifice unto God is a broken spirit; a heart that is broken and humbled God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Thy good pleasure unto Sion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then shalt Thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with oblation and whole-burnt offerings. Then shall they offer bullocks upon Thine altar. Alleluia.
O come, let us bow down:
O come, let us ask Christ our God.
O come, let us bow down:
O come, let us beseech Christ our king.
O come, let us bow down:
O come, let us entreat Christ our Saviour.
O Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God our God, through the intercession of Holy Mary and all Thy Saints, keep us, and let us start well. Have mercy upon us according to Thy will forever. The night has passed away, we give thanks unto Thee O lord, and we ask Thee to keep us this day without sin, and deliver us.
From the Epistles of our teacher St. Paul, the Apostle to the Ephesians Chapter 4: 1-5
"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism."
One is God and Father of all. One is also His Son Jesus Christ the Word Who became incarnate and died and rose again from the dead on the third day, and raised us up with Him. One is the Holy Spirit, the comforter, Who is one hypostasis, Who proceeds from the Father, cleanness the whole creation, and teaches us to worship the Holy Trinity, one essence and one nature. We praise Him, we bless Him forever. Amen.
The prayer of the First Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my king and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 1
Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seat of the pestilent. But his will is in the law of the Lord; and in His law will he meditate day and night. And he shall be like the tree which is planted by the streams of the waters, which shall bring forth its fruit in due season; and its leaf shall not fall, and all things whatsoever he may do shall prosper. Not so are the ungodly, not so; but rather they are like the chaff which the wind hurl away from the face of the earth. For this reason shall the ungodly not stand up in judgment, nor sinners in the council of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, and the way of the ungodly shall perish. Alleluia.
Psalm 2
Why have the heathen raged, and the peoples imagined vain things? The kings of the earth were aroused, and the rulers are assembled together, against the Lord, and against His Christ. Let us break their bonds asunder, and let us cast away their yoke from us. He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall deride them. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and in His anger shall He trouble them. But as for Me, I was established as king by Him, on Sion His holy mountain, proclaiming the commandment of the Lord. The Lord said unto Me: Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten thee. Ask of Me, and I will give Thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession. Thou shalt herd them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt shatter them like a potter's vessels. And now, O ye kings, understand; be instructed, all ye that judge the earth. Serve ye the Lord with fear, and rejoice in Him with trembling. Lay hold of instruction, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and ye perish from the righteous way. When quickly His wrath be kindled, blessed are all they that have put their trust in Him. Alleluia.
Psalm 3
O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? Many rise up against me. Many say unto my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God.But Thou, O Lord, art my helper, my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy mountain. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord will help me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people that set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God, for thou hast smitten all who without cause are mine enemies; the teeth of sinners hast Thou broken. Salvation is of the Lord, and thy blessing is upon Thy people. Alleluia.
Psalm 4
When I called upon Thee, O God of my righteousness, Thou didst hearken unto me; in mine affliction Thou hast made room for me. Have compassion on me and hear my prayer. O ye sons of men, how long will ye be slow of heart? Why do ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Know also that the Lord hath made wondrous His holy one; the Lord will hear me when I cry unto Him. Be ye angry, and sin not; feel compunction upon your beds for what ye say in your hearts. Sacrifice a sacrifice of righteousness, and trust in the Lord. Many say: Who will show unto us good things? The light of Thy countenance, O Lord, hath been signed upon us; Thou hast given gladness to my heart. From the fruit of their wheat, wine and oil are they multiplied. In peace in the same place I shall lie down and sleep. For Thou, O Lord, alone hast made me to dwell in hope. Alleluia.
Psalm 5
Unto my words give ear, O Lord; hear my cry. Attend unto the voice of my supplication, O my king and my God; for unto Thee will I pray, O Lord. In the morning Thou shalt hear my voice. In the morning shall I stand before Thee, and Thou shalt look upon me; for Thou art not a God that desires iniquity. He that works evil shall not dwell near Thee, nor shall transg-ressors abide before Thine eyes. Thou hast hated all them that work iniquity: Thou shalt destroy all them that speak a lie. A man that is bloody and deceitful shall the Lord abhor. But as for me, in the multitude of Thy mercy shall I go into Thy house, I shall worship toward Thy holy temple in fear of Thee. O Lord, guide me in the way of Thy righteousness; because of mine enemies, make straight my way before Thee, For in their mouth there is not truth; their heart is vain. Their throat is an open sepulcher, with their tongues have they spoken deceitfully; judge them, O God. Let them fall down on account of their own devising; according to the abundance of their ungodliness, cast them out for they have embittered Thee, O Lord. And let all them be glad that trust in Thee; they shall ever rejoice, and Thou shalt dwell among them. And all shall glory in Thee that love Thy name, for Thou shalt bless the righteous. O Lord, as with a shield of Thy good pleasure hast Thou crowned us. Alleluia.
Psalm 6
Lord, rebuke me not in Thine anger, nor chasten me in Thy wrath. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled, and my soul is troubled greatly; but Thou, O Lord, how long? Turn to me again, O Lord, deliver my soul; save me for Thy mercy's sake. For in death there is none that is mindful of Thee, and in hades who will confess Thee? I have labored in my groaning; every night I will wash my bed, with tears will I water my couch. Through wrath is mine eye become troubled, I have grown old among all mine enemies. Depart from me all ye that work vanity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication, the Lord has received my prayer. Let all mine enemies be greatly put to shame and be troubled, let them be turned back, and speedily be greatly put to shame. Alleluia.
Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord, how wonderful is Thy name in all the earth. For Thy magnificence is lifted high above the heavens. Out of the mouths of babes and suckling hast Thou perfected praise, because of Thine enemies, to put down the enemy and avenger. For I will behold the heavens, the works of Thy fingers; the moon and the stars, which Thou hast founded. What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man, that Thou visitest him? Thou hast make him a little lower than the angels; with glory and honor hast Thou crowned him, and Thou hast set him over the works of Thy hands. All things hast Thou subjected under his feet, sheep, and all cows, yea, and the cattle of the field; the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea, the things that pass through the paths of the sea. O Lord, Our Lord, how wonderful is Thy name in all the earth. Alleluia
Psalm 11
Save me, O Lord, for a righteous man there is no more; for truths have diminished from among the children of men. Every one has spoken vanity to his neighbour; deceitful lips are in his heart, and in his heart has he spoken evils. Let the Lord destroy all deceitful lips and the tongue that speaks boastful words, which have said: our tongue will we magnify, our lips are our own. Who is lord over us? Because of the misery of the poor and because of the sighing of the needy, now will I arise says the Lord; I will establish them in salvation, I will be manifest therein. The words of the Lord are pure words, silver that is fired, tried in the earth, brought to sevenfold purity. Thou, O lord, shalt keep us and shalt preserve us from this generation, and for evermore. The ungodly walk round about; to the measure of Thy loftiness hast Thou esteemed the sons of men. Alleluia.
Psalm 12
How long, O Lord, will Thou turn Thy face away from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul having sorrows in my heart daily? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? Look upon me, hear me, O Lord my God: enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep unto death. Lest at any time my enemy says: I have prevailed against him. They that afflict me will rejoice if I am shaken. But as for me, I have hoped in Thy mercy. My heart will rejoice in Thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, Who is my benefactor, and I will chant unto the name of the Lord Most High. Alleluia.
Psalm 14
O Lord, who shall abide in Thy tabernacle? and who shall dwell in Thy holy mountain? He that walks blameless and works righteousness, speaking truth in his heart. Who has not spoken deceitfully with his tongue, neither has done evil to his neighbour, nor taken up a reproach against those that dwell nearest to him. In his sight he that works evil is set at nought, but he glorifies them that fear the Lord. He swears to his neighbour, and disappoints him not. He has not lent his money on usury, and has not received bribes against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be shaken. Alleluia.
Psalm 15
Keep me, O Lord, for I have hoped in Thee. I said unto the Lord: Thou art my Lord; for Thou hast no need of my goodness. In the saints that are in His earth has the Lord been wondrous; He has wrought all His desires in them. Their infirmities increased; thereupon they hastened. I will not assemble their assemblies of blood, nor will I make remembrance of their names through my lips. The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup. Thou art He that restores my inheritance to me. Portions have fallen to me that are among the best, for my inheritance is most excellent to me. I will bless the Lord Who has given me understanding; moreover, even till night have my reins instructed me. I beheld the Lord ever before me, for He is at my right hand, that I might not be shaken. Therefore did my heart rejoice and my tongue was glad; moreover, my flesh shall dwell in hope. For Thou wilt not abandon my soul in hades, nor wilt Thou suffer Thy Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life, Thou wilt fill me with gladness with Thy countenance; delight are in Thy right hand forever. Alleluia.
Psalm 18
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims the work of His hands. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night proclaims knowledge. There are no tongues nor words in which their voices are not heard. Their sound has gone forth into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. In the sun has He set His tabernacle; and He, like a bridegroom coming forth from his chamber, will rejoice like a giant to run his course. From the outermost border of heaven is His going forth, and His goal is unto the outermost part of heaven, and no one shall be hidden from His heat. The law of the Lord is blameless, converting souls; the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing infants. The statutes of the Lord are upright, gladdening the heart; the commandment of the Lord is farshining, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever and ever; the judgments of the Lord are true, altogether justified. To be desired more than gold and much precious stone, and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. For Thy servant keeps them; in keeping them there is great reward. Who will understand his transgressions? From my secret sins cleanse me, and from those of others spare Thy servant. If they have not dominion over me, then blameless shall I be, and I shall be cleansed from great sin. And the sayings of my mouth shall be unto Thy good pleasure, and the meditation of my heart shall be before Thee forever, O Lord, my helper and my redeemer. Alleluia.
Psalm 24
Unto Thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul. O my God, in Thee have I trusted; let me never be put to shame, nor let my enemies laugh me to scorn. For none of them that wait on Thee shall be put to shame; let them be ashamed that transgress without a cause. Make Thy ways, O Lord, known unto me and teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth andteach me, for Thou art God my Saviour; for on Thee have I waited all the day long. Remember Thy compassion, O Lord, and Thy mercies, for they are from everlasting. The sins of my youth and my ignorance remember not; according to Thy mercy remember Thou me, for the sake of Thy goodness, O Lord. Good and upright is the Lord; therefore will He set a law for them that sin in the way. He will guide the meek in judgment, He will teach the meek His ways. All the ways of the Lord are mercy and truth, unto them that seek after His covenant and His testimonies. For the sake of Thy name, O Lord, be merciful to my sin; for it is great. Who is the man that fears the Lord? He will set him a law in the way which He has chosen. His soul shall dwell among good things, and his seed shall inherit the earth. The Lord is the strength of them that fear Him, and His covenant shall be manifested unto them. My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for He shall draw my feet out of the snare. Look upon me, and have mercy on me; for I am one only-begotten and poor. The afflictions of my heart are multiplied; bring me out from my necessities. Behold my lowliness and my toil, and forgive all my sins. Look upon my enemies, for they are multiplied, and with an unjust hatred have they hated me. Keep my soul and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I have hoped in Thee. The innocent and the upright have cleaved unto me, for I waited on Thee, O Lord. Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his afflictions. Alleluia.
Psalm 26
The Lord is my light and my Saviour; whom then shall I fear? The Lord is the defender of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid? When the wicked draw nigh against me to eat my flesh, they that afflict me and are my enemies, they fainted and fell. Though an army should set itself in array against me, my heart shall not be afraid; though war should rise up against me, in this have I hoped. One thing have I asked of the Lord, this will I seek after: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, that I may behold the delight of the Lord, and that I may visit His holy temple. For He hid me in His tabernacle in the day of my troubles, He sheltered me in the secret place of His tabernacle, upon a rock has He exalted me. And now, behold, He exalted my head above my enemies. I went round about and I sacrificed in His tabernacle a sacrifice of praise; I will sing and I will chant unto the Lord. Hear, O Lord, my voice, wherewith I cried; have mercy on me, and hear me. My heart said unto Thee: I will seek the Lord. My face has sought after Thee; Thy face, O Lord, will I seek. Turn not Thy face from me and turn not away in wrath from Thy servant. Be Thou my helper; cast me not utterly away, and forsake me not, O God my Saviour. For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord has taken me to Himself. Set me a law, O Lord, in Thy way, and lead me in the right path because of my enemies. Deliver me not over unto the souls of them that afflict me, for unjust witnesses are risen up against me, and injustice has lied to itself. I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and let Thy heart be strengthened, and wait on the Lord. Alleluia.
Psalm 62
O God, my God, unto Thee I rise early at dawn. My soul has thirsted for Thee; how often has my flesh longed after Thee in a land barren and untrodden and unwatered. So in the sanctuary have I appeared before Thee to see Thy power and Thy glory. For Thy mercy is better than lives; my lips shall praise Thee. So shall I bless Thee in my life, and in Thy name will I lift up my hands. Let my soul be filled, as with marrow and fatness and with lips of rejoicing shall my mouth praise Thee. For as much as I have remembered Thee on my bed, at the dawn I meditated on Thee. For Thou art become my helper; in the shelter of Thy wings will I rejoice. My soul has cleaved after Thee, Thy right hand has been quick to help me. But as for these, in vain have they sought after my soul; they shall go into the lowest parts of the earth, they shall be delivered up to the edge of the sword; they shall be portions for foxes. But the king shall rejoice in God, everyone that swears by Him shall be praised; for the mouth of them that speak unjust things has been stopped. Alleluia.
Psalm 66
God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us and have mercy on us, that we may know Thy way upon the earth, Thy salvation, among all the nations. Let the peoples give Thee praise, O God, let all the peoples praise Thee. Let the nations be glad and rejoice, for Thou shall judge peoples with uprightness; and nations shall Thou guide upon the earth. Let the peoples give Thee praise, O God, let all the peoples praise Thee; the earth has yielded her fruit. Let God, our God, bless us ; let God bless us, and let all the ends of the earth fear Him. Alleluia.
Psalm 69
O God, be attentive unto helping me; O Lord, make haste to help me. Let them be shamed and confounded that seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and brought to shame that desire evils against me. Let them be turned back straightway in shame that say unto me: Well done. Well done. Let them be glad and rejoice in Thee all that seek after Thee, O God, and let them that love Thy salvation say continually: The Lord be magnified. But as for me, I am poor and needy; O God, come unto my aid. My helper and my deliverer art Thou, O Lord; make no long tarrying. Alleluia.
Psalm 112
Praise the Lord, O ye servants, praise ye the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from henceforth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is high above all the nations, above the heavens is His glory. Who is as the Lord our God? Who dwells on high and looks down on things that are lowly, in heaven and on the earth. Who raises up the poor man from the earth, and from the dunghill lifts up the needy. That He may seat him with princes, with the princes of His people. Who makes the barren woman to dwell in a house and be a mother rejoicing over children. Alleluia.
Psalm 142
O Lord, hear my prayer, give ear unto my supplication in Thy truth; hearken unto me in Thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with Thy servant, for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has humbled my life down to the earth. He has sat me in darkness as those that have been long dead, and my spirit within me my heart is troubled. I remembered the days of old, and I meditated on all Thy works, I pondered on the creations of Thy hands. I stretched forth my hands unto Thee; my soul thirsts after Thee like a waterless land. Quickly hear me, O Lord; my spirit has fainted away. Turn not Thy face away from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear Thy mercy in the morning; for in Thee have I put my hope. Cause me to know, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for unto Thee have I lifted up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord; unto Thee have I fled for refuge. Teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God. Thy good Spirit shall lead me in the land of uprightness; for Thy name's sake, O Lord, shalt Thou quicken me. In Thy righteousness shalt Thou bring my soul out of affliction, and in Thy mercy shalt Thou utterly destroy my enemies. And Thou shalt cut off all them that afflict my soul, for I am Thy servant. Alleluia.

Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint John, may his blessings be upon us all. Amen.
John.1:1-17
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through Him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that light. That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew him not. He came unto His own, and His own received him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bare witness of Him, and cried, saying, This was He of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for He was before me. And of His fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Glory be to God forever. Amen.

May Thy saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us.
O Thou, the true light, that enlightens every man that comes into the world, Thou hast come into the world through Thy love for mankind. All creation has rejoiced for Thy coming. When the morning watch dawned upon us, O Christ our God, the True light, let the enlightened senses and thoughts shine within us and let not the darkness of pains overcome us. That we may praise Thee reasonably with David, saying: "My eyes have awaken before the morning watch, that I may meditate on Thy sayings." Hear our cries according to Thy great mercy and save us, O Lord our God through Thy lovingkindness.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
Thou art the all-honored mother of Light. From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, they offer thee glorification, O Birthgiver of God, the second heaven, for thou art the pure and unchanged blossom and the ever-virgin mother, for the Father has chosen thee and the Holy Spirit overshadowed thee and the Son took flesh from thee. Ask Him to grant salvation to the world which He hast created, and deliver it from temptation. Let us praise Him with a new song and bless Him. Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Let us sing with the angels saying: "Glory be to God in the highest, on earth peace, goodwill towards men. "We praise Thee; we bless Thee; we serve Thee; we worship Thee; we confess Thee; we proclaim Thy glory. We thank Thee for Thy great glory. O Lord, heavenly king, God the Fahter Almighty, O Lord, the Only-begotten Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy spirit; O Lord, God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. O Thou, who takes away the sins of the world, accept our prayers. O Thou, Who sits at the right hand of His Father, have mercy on us. Thou alone art Holy; Thou alone art the most High, my Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Glory be to God the Father, Amen.Every day I will bless Thee, and praise Thy Holy Name forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen. From the night, my spirit seeks Thee early, O My God, for Thy commandments are light on the earth. I meditated on Thy ways, for Thou hast become a help to me. Early, my Lord, Thou shalt hear my voice; in the morning shall I stand before Thee, and Thou shalt look upon me.
The Trisagion
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, Who was born of the Virgin, have mercy on us. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, Who was crucified for us, have mercy on us. Holy God, Holy mighty, Holy Immortal, Who rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, have mercy on us. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now, and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen. O Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, forgive our sins, Lord, forgive our iniquities. Lord, forgive our trespasses. Lord, visit the sick of Thy people, heal them for the sake of Thy Holy Name. Our fathers and brothers who have fallen asleep, repose their souls. O Thou who alone art without sin, help us and accept our prayers. For Thine is the glory, dominion, and triple holiness; Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord send Thy blessings. Amen.
Amen.

We proclaim the Holy Trinity, one in essence. We worship Him and glorify Him. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord send Thy blessings. Amen.
The Creed
We believe in one God, God the Father the Pantocrator, Who created the heaven and the earth, and of all things seen and unseen. We believe in One Lord Jesus Christ, The Only Begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light; True God of True God, begotten, not created; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were created. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from the heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man. And He was crucified for us under Pontious Pilate, suffered, and was buried. And the third day He rose from the dead, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of His Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, whose Kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father; Who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets in one Holy Katholik and Apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the remission of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
O Lord, hear us, have mercy on us, and forgive our sins.
Lord have mercy (Kyrie eleison) 41 times
Holy, Holy, Holy, O Lord of Sabaoth, Heaven and earth are full of Thy glory and Thy majesty. Have mercy on us O God the Father Almighty. O Holy Trinity have mercy on us. O Lord of hosts be Thou with us. For we have no other helper in our tribulations and necessities but Thee.Loose, remit, and pardon, O God, our transgressions that we have committed voluntarily and involuntarily, consciously and unconsciously, hidden and manifest. O Lord, remit for the sake of Thy Holy Name, by which we are called, according to Thy mercy, O Lord, and not according to our sins.
Amen.
The worshipper prays this absolutions:
1st Absolution
O Lord of hosts, Who art before the ages and Who endureth forever, Thou Who had created the sun for the illumination of the day, and the night for the rest of all people, we thank Thee O King of all ages because Thou permitted us to pass this night in peace and brought us to the daybreak. Therefore, we ask Thee our Lord, King of all ages, may the light of Thy face shine upon us, and may the light of Thy divine knowledge illume us. Make us, O Our Master, the sons of light and the sons of daytime that we may pass this day in righteousness and purity and good disposition, and that we may complete the remainder of our life without stumbling, through the grace, compassion, and love-of-man of Thine Only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and the gift of Thy Holy Spirit both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
2nd Absolution
O Emitter of light that is emitted, whose sun shines on the righteous and the wicked; who made light to illumine the universe, enlighten our minds, hearts and understanding O Master of all. Grant us this day to please Thee. Protect us from all evil, from every sin and from every power of the adversary, through our Lord Jesus Christ, with Whom Thou art blessed together with the Holy Spirit, the Giver of life, and Who is equal with Thee both now and ever and unto the ages. Amen.
The prayer of every hour
Have mercy on us O God, and have mercy on us. Thou who, at all times, and at every hour, in Heaven and on earth art worshipped and glorified. O Christ, our God, who art long-suffering, plenteous in mercy and most compassionate, who loves the righteous and has mercy on sinners, of whom I am first. Who does not wish the death of sinner, but to repent and to live. Who calls all to salvation through the promise of good things to come. Receive, O Lord, our prayers at this hour and at every hour; prosper our way, and guide our life toward Thy commandments. Sanctify our souls, make chaste our bodies, correct our thoughts, purify our intention, heal our sickness, remit our sins, and deliver us from every affliction evil and pain. Compass us about with Thy holy angels; that guided and guarded by their array we may attain to the unity of faith and the knowledge of Thine unapproachable and infinite glory for blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Amen.
Third Hour
In this hour of the day, the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles as tongues of fire(Acts 2:15). At this hour also, Our Lord Jesus Christ was condemned.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit , one God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia.
The prayer of the Third Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my King and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 19
The Lord hears you in the day of affliction; the name of the God of Jacob defends you. Send forth unto you help from His sanctuary, and out of Sion help you. Remember all your sacrifice, and fatten your wholeburnt offering. The Lord grant you according to your heart, and fulfill all your purposes. We will rejoice in Thy salvation, and in the name of the Lord our God shall we be magnified. The Lord fulfill all your requests. Now have I known that the Lord has saved His anointed one; He will hear him out of His holy heaven; in mighty deeds is the salvation of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will call upon the name of the Lord our God. They have been fettered and have fallen, but we are risen and are set upright. O Lord, save the king, and hear us in they day when we call upon Thee. Alleluia.
Psalm 22
The Lord is my shepherd, and I shall not want. In a place of green pasture, there has He made me to dwell; beside the water of rest has He nourished me. He has converted my soul, He has led me on the paths of righteousness for his Name's sake. For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they have comforted me. Thou hast prepared a table before me in the presence of them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil, and Thy cup which fills me, how excellent it is. And Thy mercy shall pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days. Alleluia.
Psalm 23
The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof, the world, and all that dwell in it. He hath founded it upon the seas, and upon the rivers hath He prepared it. Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His holy place? He that is innocent in hands and pure in heart, who has not received his soul in vain, and has not sworn deceitfully to his neighbour, such a one shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour. This is the generation of them that seek the Lord, of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your gates, O ye princes; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting gates, and the King of Glory shall enter in. Who is this king of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in war. Lift up your gates, O ye princes; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting gates, and the king of Glory shall enter in. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the king of Glory. Alleluia.
Psalm 25
Judge me, O Lord, for in my innocence have I walked; and hoping in the Lord I shall not grow weak. Prove me, O Lord, and try me; prove with fire my reins and my heart. For Thy mercy is before my eyes, and I have been wellpleasing in Thy truth. I have not sat with the council of vanity, nor shall I go in with them that transgress the law. I have hated the congregation of evil-doers, and with the ungodly will I not sit. I will wash my hands in innocency and I will compass Thine altar, O Lord, that I may hear the voice of Thy praise and tell of all Thy wondrous works. O Lord, I have loved the beauty of Thy house, and the place where Thy glory dwells. Destroy not my soul with the ungodly, nor my life with men of blood, in whose hands are iniquities; their right hand is full of bribes. But as for me, in my innocence have I walked; redeem me, O Lord, and have mercy on me. My foot has stood in uprightness; in the congregations will I bless Thee, O Lord. Alleluia.
Psalm 28
Bring to the Lord, ye sons of God, bring to the Lord the sons of rams; bring to the Lord glory and honour. Bring to the Lord the glory due to His name, worship the Lord in His holy court. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory has thundered, the Lord is upon the many waters. The voice of the Lord in might, the voice of the Lord in majesty. The voice of the Lord Who breaks the cedars, yea, the Lord will break the cedars of Lebanon. And He will break them small like the calf of Lebanon, and His beloved is like a son of the unicorns. The voice of the Lord Who divides the flame of fire. The voice of the Lord Who shakes the wilderness, yea, the Lord will shake the wilderness of Kaddis. The voice of the Lord gathers the harts, and shall reveal the thickets of oak, and in His temple every man utters glory. The Lord dwells in the flood, yea, the Lord shall sit as king forever. The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Alleluia.
Psalm 29
I will exalt Thee, O Lord, for Thou hast upheld me, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to Thee, and Thou hast healed me. O Lord, Thou hast brought up my soul out of Hades; Thou hast saved me from them that go down into the pit. Chant unto the Lord, O ye saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. For wrath is in His anger, but in His will there is life; at evening shall weeping find lodging, but in the morning rejoicing. And I said in my prosperity: I shall remain unshaken forever. O Lord, by Thy will has Thou granted power to my beauty, but Thou hast turned away Thy face, and I became troubled. Unto Thee, O Lord, will I cry, and unto my God will I make supplication. What profit is there in my blood when I go down into corruption ? Shall dust confess Thee, or declare Thy truth? The Lord has heard me and has had mercy on me; the Lord became my helper. Thou hast turned my morning into joy for me, Thou didst rend my sackcloth and didst gird me with gladness, that my glory may chant unto Thee, and that I may not be pierced with sorrow; O Lord my God, I will confess Thee forever. Alleluia.
Psalm 33
I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall be continually in my mouth. In the Lord shall my soul be praised; let the meek hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my tribulations. Come unto Him, and be enlightened, and your faces shall not be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his tribulations. The angel of the Lord will encamp round about them that fear Him, and will deliver them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who hopes in Him. O fear the Lord, all ye His saints; for there is no want to them that fear Him. Rich men have turned poor and gone hungry; but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good thing. Come ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. What man is there that desires life, who loves to see good days? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile. Turn away from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are opened unto their supplication. The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, utterly to destroy the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cried, and the Lord heard them, and He delivered them out of all their tribulations. The Lord is near to them that are of a contrite heart, and He will save the humble of spirit. Many are the tribulations of the righteous, and the Lord shall deliver them out of them all. The Lord keeps all their bones, not one of them shall be broken. The death of sinners is evil, and they that hate the righteous shall do wrong. The Lord will redeem the souls of His servants, and none of them will do wrong that hope in Him. Alleluia.
Psalm 40
Blessed is the man that has understanding for the poor man and needy; in an evil day the Lord will deliver Him. May the Lord keep him, and make him to live, and make him blessed upon the earth, and never surrender him into the hands of his enemies. May the Lord help him on his bed of pain, the whole of his confinement in his sickness hast Thou made better. I said: O Lord, have mercy on me, heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee. My enemies have spoken evil things against me: When shall he die, and when shall his name perish? And though he came in to see me, his heart spoke vanity; he gathered iniquity unto himself; he went forth, and spoke in a like manner. All my enemies whispered against me, against me they devised evils for me. An unjust word they set against me: Can it be that he that sleeps shall rise up again? Yea, even the man of my peace in whom I hoped, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heels against me. But Thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, and I will requite them. By this I know that Thou hast delighted in me, because my enemy shall not rejoice over me. And because of my innocence Thou hast helped me, and hast established me before Thee forever. Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. So be it. So be it. Alleluia.
Psalm 42
Judge me, O God, and give judgment in my cause, against a nation that is not holy; from a man unjust and crafty deliver me. For Thou, O God, art my strength. Wherefore hast Thou cast me off ? And wherefore go I with downcast face while my enemy afflicts me? Send out Thy light and Thy truth; they have guided me along the way, and have brought me unto Thy holy mountain, and unto Thy tabernacles. And I shall go in unto the altar of God, unto God Who gives gladness to my youth; I will give praise unto Thee, O God, my God, with the harp. Why are you cast down, O my soul ? And why do you disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will give thanks unto Him; He is the salvation of my countenance, and my God. Alleluia.
Psalm 44
My heart has poured forth a good word; I speak of my works to the King; my tongue is the pen of a swiftly writing scribe. Thou in beauty art more than the sons of me; grace has been poured forth on Thy lips, wherefore God has blessed Thee forever. Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, in Thy comeliness and Thy beauty. And bend Thy bow, and proceed prosperously, and be King, because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and Thy right hand shall guide Thee wondrously. Thine arrows are sharp, O Mighty One, under Thee shall peoples fall sharp in the heart of the enemies of the King. Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever; a sceptre of uprightness is the sceptre of Thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Wherefore God, Thy God, has anointed Thee with the oil of gladness more than Thy fellows. Myrrh and stacte and cassia exhale from Thy garments, from the ivory palaces, whereby they have made Thee glad, they the daughters of Kings in Thine honour. At Thy right hand stood the queen arrayed in a vesture of inwoven gold, adorned in varied colours. Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; and forget your own people and your father's house. Because the King has desired your beauty, for He Himself is your Lord, and you shall worship Him. And Him shall the daughters of Tyre worship with gifts; the rich among the people shall entreat your face. All the glory of the daughter of the King is within, with gold-fringed garments is she arrayed, adorned in varied colours. The virgins that follow after her shall be brought unto the King, those near her shall be brought unto Thee. They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing, they shall be brought into the temple of the King. Instead of your fathers, sons are born to you; you shall make them princes over all the earth. They shall make mention of your name in every generation and generation. Therefore, shall peoples give praise to you forever, and unto the ages of ages. Alleluia.
Psalm 45
God is our refuge and strength, a helper in afflictions which mightily befall us. Therefore we shall not fear when the earth be shaken, nor when the mountains be removed into the heart of the seas. Their waters roared and were troubled, the mountains were troubled by His might. The rushing of the river make glad the city of God: the Most High has hallowed His tabernacle. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be shaken; God shall help her right early in the morning. The nations were troubled, kingdoms tottered, the Most High gave forth His voice, the earth was shaken. The Lord of hosts is with us, our helper is the God of Jacob. Come and behold the works of God, what marvels He has wrought on the earth, making wars to cease unto the ends of the earth. He will crush the bow and will shatter the weapon, and shields will He utterly burn with fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, our helper is the God of Jacob. Alleluia.
Psalm 46
Clap your hands, all ye nations; shout unto God with a voice of rejoicing, for the Lord Most High is terrible, a great King over all the earth. He hast subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He hast chosen us for His inheritance, the beauty of Jacob, which He loved. God is gone up in jubilation, the Lord with the voice of the trumpet. O chant unto our God, chant ye; chant unto our King, chant ye. For God is king of all the earth, O chant ye with understanding. God is King over the nations, God sits upon His holy throne. The princes of the peoples are gathered together with the God of Abraham; for God's mighty ones of the earth are greatly exalted. Alleluia.
Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint John, may his blessings be upon us all. Amen.
Jn.14:26-15:3
But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard how I said to you, I am going away and coming back to you. If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, I am going to the Father, for My Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it comes to pass, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here. I am the true vine, and My father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you.
Glory be to God Forever. Amen.
May Thy saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us.
Thy Holy Spirit, O Lord, which Thou sent forth upon Thy holy disciples, and Thine honourable Apostles at the third hour, This, take not away from us, O Good-one, but renew Him within us. Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
O Lord, Who at the third hour, didst send down Thy Holy Spirit upon Thy Holy disciples and honourable Apostles, This take not away from us, O Good-one, but renew Him within us we beseech Thee, O Christ our Lord and Word and Son of God. A righteous and life-giving Spirit, a Spirit of prophecy and purity. A Spirit of sanctification, righteousness and power, O Almighty-one. For Thou art the Light of our souls, O Thou who enlightens every man that comes into the world and have mercy on us.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
Birthgiver of God, Thou art the True Vine, bearing the Fruit of Life, we ask Thee, O Thou full of grace, together with the apostles, for the salvation of our souls. Blessed be the Lord our God. Blessed be the Lord day by day. The God of our salvation shall prosper us along the way.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere present, and fillest all things, O Treasury of good, and bestower of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save, O Good-One, our souls.
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
As Thou wast with Thy disciples, O Saviour, and gavest them peace, Come also and be with us, and save us, and deliver our souls.
Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
When we stand in Thy Holy temple, we are counted as those standing in heaven. Thou art the gate of heaven, O Birthgiver of God, open unto us the door of mercy.
O Lord, hear us, have mercy on us, and forgive our sins.
Lord have mercy (Kyrie eleison) 41 times

Then the worshipper prays this absolutions:
O God of all mercies and Lord of all comforts, Who has comforted us at all times with the comfort of Thy Holy Spirit, we give Thee thanks that Thou hast raised us up to pray at this holy hour wherein Thou poured forth the grace of Thy Holy Spirit in abundance upon Thy Holy disciples and honourable Apostles, in likeness of tongues of fire. We pray and entreat Thee, O Thou Lover of mankind, receive our prayer, forgive our sins and send down upon us the grace of Thy Holy Spirit. Purify us from the stain of the body and soul. And translate us into a spiritual way, that we may walk in the Spirit; and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And make us worthy to serve Thee in purity and truth all the days of our life. For to Thee are due all glory, honour, and power, with Thy Good Father, and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages Amen.

Alleluia.
The prayer of the Sixth Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my king and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 53
O God, in Thy name save me, and in Thy strength do Thou judge me. O God, hear my prayer, give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers are risen up against me, and mighty men have sought after my soul and have not set God before themselves. For behold, God helps me, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. He will bring evils upon my enemies. Utterly destroy them by Thy truth. Willingly shall I sacrifice unto Thee; I will confess Thy name, O Lord, for it is good. For out of every affliction hast Thou delivered me, and my eye has looked down upon my enemies. Alleluia.
Psalm 56
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for my soul trusted in Thee. And in the shadow of Thy wings will I hope, until iniquity shall pass away. I will cry unto God the Most High, unto God my benefactor. He hath sent out of heaven and saved me, He hath given over to reproach them that were trampling me down. God hath sent forth His mercy and His truth, and hath delivered my soul from the midst of lions' cubs; I lay down to sleep as one troubled. As for the sons of men, their teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. Be Thou exalted above the heavens, O God, and Thy glory above all the earth. They have prepared a snare for my feet, and bowed down my soul. They have dug a pit before my face and have fallen into it themselves. Ready is my heart, O God, ready is my heart; I will sing and chant in my glory. Awake, O my glory; awake, O psaltery and harp; I myself will awake at dawn. I will confess Thee among the peoples, O Lord, I will chant unto Thee among the nations. For magnified even unto the heavens is Thy mercy, and Thy truth even unto the clouds. Be Thou exalted above the heavens, O God, and Thy glory above all the earth. Alleluia
Psalm 60
O God, hearken unto my supplication; attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth I have cried to Thee when my heart was despondent; on a rock Thou hast lifted me on high. Thou hast guided me, for Thou hast become my hope, a tower of strength against the face of the enemy. I will dwell in Thy tabernacle unto the ages, I shall be sheltered in the shelter of Thy wings. For Thou, O God, hast heard my prayers; Thou hast given an inheritance to them that fear Thy name. Days shall Thou add to the days of the king, his years unto days for generation and generation. He shall abide before the face of God in the age to come. As for His mercy and truth, who shall seek them out? So will I chant unto Thy name unto the ages, that I may pay my vows from day to day. Alleluia.
As with marrow and fatness let my soul be filled, and with lips of rejoicing shall my mouth praise Thee. For as much as I have remembered Thee on my bed, at the dawn I meditated on Thee. For Thou art become my helper; in the shelter of Thy wings will I rejoice. My soul has cleaved after Thee, Thy right hand hast been quick to help me. But as for these, in vain have they sought after my soul; they shall go into the nethermost parts of the earth, they shall be surrendered unto the edge of the sword; portions for foxes shall they be. But the king shall be glad in God, everyone shall be praised that swears by Him; for the mouth of them is stopped that speak unjust things. Alleluia.
Psalm 66
God be gracious unto us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us and have mercy on us, that we may know upon the earth Thy way, among all the nations Thy salvation. Let the peoples give Thee praise, O God, let all the peoples praise Thee. Let the nations be glad and rejoice, for Thou shalt judge peoples with uprightness; and nations shalt Thou guide upon the earth. Let the peoples give Thee praise, O God, let all the peoples praise Thee; the earth has yielded her fruit. Let God, our God, bless us; let God bless us, and letall the ends of the earth fear Him. Alleluia.
Psalm 69
O God, be attentive unto helping me; O Lord, make haste to help me. Let them be shamed and confounded that seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and brought to shame that desire evils against me. Let them be turned back straightway in shame that say unto me: Well done! Well done! Alleluia.
Psalm 83
How beloved are Thy dwellings, O Lord of hosts; my soul longs and faints for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh have rejoiced in the living God. For the sparrow has found herself a house, and the turtledove a nest for herself where she may lay her young, even Thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house; unto ages of ages shall they praise Thee. Blessed is the man whose help is from Thee; he has made ascents in his heart, in the vale of weeping, in the place which he has appointed. Yea, for the lawgiver will give blessings; they shall go from strength to strength, the God of gods shall be seen in Sion. O Lord of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. O God, our defender, behold, and look upon the face of Thine anointed one. For better is one day in Thy courts than thousands elsewhere. I have chosen rather to be an outcast in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of sinners. For the Lord loves mercy and truth, God will give grace and glory; the Lord will not withhold good things from them that walk in innocence. O Lord God of hosts, blessed is the man that hopes in Thee. Alleluia.
Psalm 84
Thou hast taken pleasure, O Lord, in Thy land; Thou hast turned back the captivity of Jacob. Thou hast forgiven the iniquities of Thy people, Thou hast covered all their sins. Thou hast made all Thy wrath to cease, Thou hast turned back from the wrath of Thine anger. Turn us back, O God of our salvation, and turn away Thine anger from us. Will Thou be angry with us forever? Or wilt Thou continue Thy wrath from generation to generation? O God, Thou wilt turn and quicken us, and Thy people shall be glad in Thee. Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy, and Thy salvation do Thou give unto us. I will hear what the Lord God will speak in me; for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints and to them that turn their heart unto Him. Surely nigh unto them that fear Him is His salvation, that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth has sprung up out of the earth, and righteousness has looked down from heaven. For the Lord will give goodness, and our land shall yield her fruit. Righteousness shall go before Him and shall set his footsteps in the way. Alleluia.
Psalm 85
Bow down Thine ear, O Lord, and hear me, for poor and needy am I. Preserve my soul, for I am holy; save Thy servant, O my God, that hopes in Thee. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for unto Thee will I cry all the day long; make glad the soul of Thy servant, for unto Thee have I lifted up my soul. For Thou, O Lord, art good and gentle, and plenteous in mercy to all that call upon Thee. Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer, and attend unto the voice of my supplication. In the day of my affliction have I cried unto Thee, for Thou hast heard me. There is none like Thee among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like Thy works. All the nations whom Thou hast made shall come and shall worship before Thee, O Lord, and shall glorify Thy name. For Thou art great and workest wonders; Thou alone art God. Guide me, O Lord, in Thy way, and I will walk in Thy truth; let my heart rejoice that I may fear Thy name. I will confess Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Thy name forever. For great is Thy mercy upon me, and Thou hast delivered my soul from the nethermost Hades. O God, transgressors have risen up against me, and the assembly of the mighty has sought after my soul, and they have not set Thee before them. But Thou, O Lord my God, art compassionate and merciful, long-suffering and plenteous in mercy, and true. Look upon me and have mercy upon me; give Thy strength unto Thy servant, and save the son of Thy handmaiden. Work in me a sign unto good, and let them that hate me behold and be put to shame; for Thou, O Lord, hast helped me and comforted me. Alleluia.
Psalm 86
His foundations are in the holy mountains; the Lord loves the gates of Sion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me. And lo, the foreigners and Tyre and the people of the Ethiopians, these were born there. A man will say : Mother Sion: and; That man was born in her; and: The Most High Himself has founded her. The Lord shall tell it in the writing of the peoples and the princes, even these that were born in her. All they that have their habitation in Thee are joyous. Alleluia.
Psalm 90
He that dwells in the help of the Most High shall abide in the shelter of the God of heaven. He shall say unto the Lord: Thou art my helper and my refuge. He is my God, and I will hope in Him. For He shall deliver you from the snare of the hunters and from every troubling word. With His shoulders will He overshadow you, and under His wings shall you trust. With a shield will His truth encompass you; you shall not be afraid of terror by night, nor for the arrow flying by day. Nor for the thing that walks in darkness, nor for the mishap and demon of noonday. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but unto you shall it not come nigh. Only with your eyes shall you observe and you shall see the reward of sinners. For Thou, O Lord, art my hope. Thou hast made the Most High thy refuge; no evils shall come near you, and no scourge shall draw near to your dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. On their hands shall they bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone. Upon the asp and basilisk shall you tread, and you shall trample upon the lion and dragon. For he has hoped in Me, and I will deliver him; I will shelter him because he has known My name. He shall cry unto Me, and I will hear him. I am with him in affliction, and I will rescue him and glorify him. With length of days will I satisfy him, and I will show him my salvation. Alleluia.
Psalm 92
The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength and He has girded Himself with it. For He established the world which shall not be shaken. Thy throne is prepared of old; Thou art from everlasting. The rivers have lifted up, O Lord, the rivers have lifted up their voices. The rivers will lift up their waves, at the voices of many waters. Wonderful are the surging of the sea, wonderful on high is the Lord. Thy testimonies are made very sure. Holiness becomes Thy house, O Lord, unto length of days. Alleluia.

Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, may his blessings be upon us all. Amen.
Mat.5:1-16
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn , for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
Glory be to God forever. Amen.

May Thy saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us.
O Thou who in the sixth day, and at the sixth hour, was nailed to the Cross because of the presumptuousness of Adam's sin in Paradise: tear asunder the handwriting of our sins, O Christ our God, and save us. Unto God have I cried, and the Lord has heard me. O God, hear my prayer and turn not away from my supplication. Attend unto me and hear me. Evening, morning and noonday will I say my words; and he will hear my voice, and in peace will deliver my soul.
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
O Jesus Christ our God, Who was nailed to the Cross at the sixth hour and has slain sin by the tree, and has by Thy death given life to the dead, even to man, whom Thou hast created with Thine own hands, and who was dead in sin. Slay our sufferings by Thy saving and life-giving passion. And by the nails wherewith Thou wast nailed, deliver our minds from the recklessness of insubstantial works and worldly lusts, to the remembrance of Thine heavenly judgments, according to Thy tender mercies.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
In as much as we have no boldness, excuse, or plea because of the multitude of our sins, we entreat, through thee, O Virgin, Birthgiver of God, Him to whom thou gave birth. For abundant is thy intercession, and acceptable to our Saviour. O spotless Mother, reject us not, sinners, in thy intercession with Him to whom thou gave birth. For He is merciful and mighty is He to save us, because He suffered for us, to deliver us. Let Thy tender mercies come quickly upon us for we have become exceedingly poor; help us, O God our Saviour, for the glory of Thy Name. O Lord save us and forgive our sins of the sake of Thy Holy Name.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
Thou hast wrought salvation in the midst of all the earth, O Christ our God, when Thou didst stretch Thine pure hands upon the tree of the Cross. Wherefore all nations cry out, saying: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
We worship Thine incorrupted form, O Good-one, asking forgiveness of our sins, O Christ our God. For of Thine own goodwill, Thou wast pleased to ascend to the cross, to deliver those whom Thou hast created from the bondage of the enemy. We cry out, and give thanks of Thee for Thou hast filled all with joy, O Saviour, when Thou came to rescue the world, Lord glory be to Thee.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
Thou art full of grace, O Virgin Birthgiver of God. We magnify thee for through the Cross of thy Son Hades was humbled and death despoiled. And we that were dead are raised up and made worthy of eternal life and obtained the bliss of the first Paradise. Wherefore, with thanksgiving we glorify Him, the Immortal Christ Our God.
Amen.
Then the worshipper prays this absolution:
We give thanks unto Thee, O our king the Almighty, Father of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ, and we glorify Thee, for Thou hast made the hours of suffering of Thine Only-begotten Son to be times of comfort and prayer. Accept unto Thee our supplications and blot out the handwriting of our sins that is written against us. Even as Thou didst tear it asunder at the time of this holy hour on the cross of Thine Only-begotten Son Jesus Christ, our Lord, and the Saviour of our souls, by whom Thou hast despoiled all the power of the enemy. Give us O God, a radiant time, and a blameless and peaceful life, that we may please Thy Holy Name, to whom is due worship, and may stand at the dreadful and just judgment seat of Thine Only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, without falling into condemnation, and may glorify Thee, the unoriginal Father, and the Son, who is consubstantial with Thee, and the Holy Spirit, the Giver-of-life, together with all unto the ages of all ages.
Amen.
Amen.
Ninth Hour
This hour commemorates the death of our Lord in the flesh upon the tree and the testimony of the thief at his right hand(Matthew 21:46)
Amen.
Alleluia.
The prayer of the Ninth Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my King and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 95
O sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim from day to day the good tidings of His salvation. Declare among the heathen His glory, and among all peoples His wonders. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the heathen are demons, but the Lord made the heavens. Praise and beauty are before Him, holiness and majesty are in His sanctuary. Bring to the Lord, O ye kindred of the nations, bring to the Lord glory and honour; bring to the Lord the glory due to His name. Bring sacrifices, and go into His courts; worship the Lord is His holy court. Let the earth be shaken at His presence; say among the nations that the Lord reigns. For He hast established the world which shall not be shaken; He shall judge the people in uprightness. Let the heavens be glad and let the earth rejoice; let the sea be shaken, and the fullness thereof. The plains shall be joyful, and all the things therein. Then shall all the trees of the forest rejoice at the presence of the Lord, for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth. Alleluia.
Psalm 96
The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad. Clouds and darkness are round about Him; righteousness and judgment are the establishment of His throne. Fire shall go before Him, and shall burn up His enemies round about. His lightning have shone forth throughout the world; the earth saw it and was shaken. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of all the earth. The heavens declared His righteousness, and all the peoples saw His glory. Let all be put to shame that worship graven things, that boast themselves of their idols. Worship Him, all ye His angels; Sion heard and was glad, and the daughters of Judea rejoiced because of Thy judgments, O Lord. For Thou art Lord Most High over all the earth, Thou art exalted far above all the gods. Ye that love the Lord, hate evil. The Lord preserves the souls of His saints; from the hand of the sinner shall He deliver them. A light has dawned forth for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Be glad in the Lord, O ye righteous, and give thanks for the remembrance of His holiness. Alleluia.
Psalm 97
O sing to the Lord a new song, for the Lord has wrought wondrous things. His right hand and His holy arm have wrought salvation for Him. The Lord has made known His salvation, in the sight of the nations has He revealed His righteousness. He has remembered His mercy to Jacob, and His truth to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout with jubilation to the Lord, all the earth; sing and rejoice and chant psalms. Chant ye to the Lord with a harp, with the harp and with the voice of a psalm, with trumpets of metal, and with a voice of a trumpet of horn. Shout with jubilation before the Lord our King; let the sea be shaken and the fullness thereof, the world and all they that dwell therein. The rivers shall clap their hands together; the mountains shall rejoice at the presence of the Lord, for He comes; yea, He is come to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with uprightness. Alleluia.
Psalm 98
The Lord reigns, let the peoples rage; He sits on the cherubim, let the earth be shaken. The Lord is great in Sion, and He is high above all peoples. Let them confess Thy great name, for it is terrible and holy; and the king's honour loves judgment. Thou hast prepared uprightness; judgment and righteousness in Jacob hast Thou wrought. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship the footstool of His feet ; for He is holy. Moses and Aaron among His priests, and Samuel among them that call upon His name. They called upon the Lord, and He heard them; in a pillar of cloud He spoke unto them. For they kept His testimonies and His ordinances which He gave them. O Lord our God, Thou didst hear them; O God, Thou wast fain to be entreated for them, and yet took vengeance on all their devices. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at His holy mountain; for holy is the Lord our God. Alleluia.
Psalm 99
Shout with jubilation unto God, all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness. Come before His presence with rejoicing. Know ye that the Lord Himself is our God; it is He that has made us, and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, into His courts with hymns; give thanks unto Him. Praise His name, for the Lord is good; His mercy endureth forever, and His truth unto generation and generation. Alleluia.
Psalm 100
Of mercy and judgment will I sing to Thee, O Lord; I will chant and have understanding in a blameless path. When will Thou come unto me? I have walked in the innocence of my heart in the midst of my house. I have no unlawful thing before my eyes; the workers of transgressions I have hated. A crooked heart has not cleaved to me; as for the wicked man who turned from me, I knew him not. Him that privily talked against his neighbour did I drive away from me. With him whose eye was proud and his heart insatiate, I did not eat. My eyes were upon the faithful of the land, that they might sit with me; the man that walked in the blameless path, he ministered to me. The proud doer dwelt not in the midst of my house; the speaker of unjust things prospered not before my eyes. In the morning I slew all the sinners of the land, utterly to destroy out of the city of the Lord all them that work iniquity. Alleluia.
Psalm 109
The Lord said to my Lord: Sit Thou at my right hand, until I make Thine enemies the footstool of Thy feet. A sceptre of power shall the Lord send unto Thee out of Sion; rule Thou in the midst of Thine enemies. With Thee is dominion in the day of Thy power, in the splendour of Thy saints. From the womb before the morning star have I begotten Thee. The Lord has sworn and will not repent: Thou art a priest forever, after the order of Melchisedek. The Lord at Thy right hand has broken kings in the day of His wrath. He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill them with dead bodies, He shall crush the heads of many upon the earth. He shall drink of the brook in the way; therefore He shall lift up His head. Alleluia.
Psalm 110
I will confess Thee, O Lord, with my whole heart, in the council of the upright and in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, sought out in all the things that He has willed. Confession and majesty are His work, and His righteousness abides unto ages of ages. He made a remembrance of His wondrous deeds; merciful and compassionate is the Lord; He has given food to them that fear Him. He will be mindful forever of His covenant; the power of His works He has declared to His people, that He may give them the inheritance of the nations; the works of His hands are truth and judgment. Faithful are all His commandments, confirmed unto ages of ages, made in truth and uprightness. He hath sent redemption unto His people, He hath enjoined His covenant forever; holy and terrible is His name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and all they that foster this have a good understanding. His praise abides unto ages of ages. Alleluia.
Psalm 111
Blessed is the man that fears the Lord; in His commandments shall be greatly delight. His seed shall be mighty upon the earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Glory and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness abides unto ages of ages. There has risen up in darkness a light for the upright; he is merciful and compassionate and righteous. A good man is he that is compassionate and lends; he shall order his words with judgment, for he shall remain unshaken forever. In everlasting remembrance shall the righteous be; he shall not be afraid of evil tidings. His heart is ready to hope in the Lord; his heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he look down upon his enemies. He has dispersed, he has given to the poor, his righteousness abides unto ages of ages; his horn shall be exalted with glory. The sinner shall see and be angered, he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the sinner shall perish. Alleluia.
Psalm 112
Praise the Lord, O ye servants, praise ye the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from hence forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is to be praised. High above all the nations is the Lord, above the heavens is His glory. Who is like the Lord our God ? Who dwells on high and looks down on things that are lowly, in heaven and on the earth. Who raises up the poor man from the earth, and from the dunghill lifts up the pauper, that He may seat him with princes, with the princes of His people. Who makes the barren woman to dwell in a house and be a mother rejoicing over children. Alleluia.
Psalm 111
I am filled with love, for the Lord will hear the voice of my supplication. For He has inclined His ear to me, and in my days will I call upon Him. The pangs of death have encompassed me, the dangers of Hades found me. Tribulation and sorrow have I found, and I called upon the name of the Lord: O Lord, deliver my soul. Merciful is the Lord and righteous, and our God has mercy. The Lord preserves the infants; I was brought low and He saved me. Return, O my soul, unto your rest, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For He has delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from sliding. I will be well-pleasing before the Lord in the land of the living. Alleluia.
Psalm 115
I believed, wherefore I spoke; I was humbled exceedingly. As for me, I said in my ecstasy: Every man is a liar. What shall I render unto the Lord for all that He has rendered to me? I will take the cup of salvation, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all His people. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. O Lord, I am Thy servant; I am Thy servant and the son of Thy handmaid. Thou hast broken my bonds asunder. I will sacrifice a sacrifice of praise unto Thee, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Alleluia.
Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint Luke. May his blessings be upon us all Amen.
LK.9:10-17
And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. And He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. And when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. And when the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, "Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here." But He said to them. "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all this people." For there were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of fifty." And they did so, and made them all sit down. Then He took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. And they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the remaining fragments were taken up by them.
Glory be to God forever. Amen.
May Thy saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us.
O Thou who, at the ninth hour didst taste death in the flesh for the sake of us sinners, mortify our carnal senses, O Christ our God, and deliver us. Let my supplication come before Thee, O Lord; according to Thine oracle give me understanding. Let my petition enter into Thy Presence according to Thy word quicken me.
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
O Thou Who gave up the ghost into the hands of the Father, when Thou didst hang on the cross at the ninth hour, and didst lead the thief into Paradise; neglect me not, O Good-one, neither cast me off who has gone astray; but purify my soul and enlighten my understanding, and make me a partaker of the grace of Thy life-giving mysteries. That having tasted of Thy benefactions, I may offer Thee unceasing praise, longing above all for Thy splendour, O Christ our God and save us.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
O Thou Who for our sake wast born of the Virgin, and didst endure crucifixion, O Good-one, and didst destroy death by death, and didst reveal the resurrection by Thy resurrection; turn not Thy face, O God, from those whom Thou hast fashioned with Thine own hands; but show forth Thy love for mankind, O Good-one. Accept the intercession of Thy Mother for us and deliver a humble nation. Abandon us not unto the end, neither deliver us unto the ages, forswear not Thy covenant, and take not Thy mercy from us, for the sake of Abraham Thy beloved, and Issac Thy servant, and Israel Thy holy one.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
When the thief saw the Author of Life hanging upon the Cross, He spoke saying: "If He Who is crucified with us were not the Incarnate God, the sun would not have veiled his ray, neither would have the earth quaked trembling. But, O Thou All-powerful and All-enduring Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy kingdom. "
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
O Thou Who didst receive unto Thee the confession of the thief upon the cross, receive us also unto Thyself, O Good-one, who are deemed worthy of the sentence of death because of our sins. With him we acknowledge our sins, confessing Thy Divinity, crying out and saying: "Remember us, O Lord, when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom.
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
When the Mother beheld the Lamb and Shepherd and Saviour of the world hanging upon the cross, she said weeping: "The world rejoices in that it has received salvation, but my bowels are ablaze when I behold Thy crucifixion, which Thou endureth for the sake of all, O my Son and my God.
Amen.
Then the worshipper prays this absolution:
O God, The Father of our Lord, God, and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who by His appearing has saved us and delivered us from the bondage of the enemy, we beseech Thee in His blessed and great Name, translate our minds from worldly cares and carnal passions into the remembrance of Thy heavenly judgments. Fulfill in us Thy love for mankind, O Good-one and let our prayers at all times and the prayer of this Ninth Hour be acceptable before Thee. Grant us to walk worthy of the calling to which Thou hast called us, that when we depart this flesh we may be numbered with the true worshippers, worthy of the sufferings of Thine Only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord, and may obtain mercy and forgiveness of our sins, and salvation with the host of saints who have pleased Thee from the ages and unto the end.O God, bring to nought all the power of the disobedient-one and all his evil hosts, as Thine Only-begotten Son has trodden them by the power of His Life-giving Cross. And accept us unto Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, as Thou hast accepted the right-hand thief on the Cross. Shed Thy light on us as Thou hast enlightened those who were in the darkness of Hades, and restore us all to the paradise of delight, for Thou art, O our Lord, a blessed God, and unto Thee is due, with Thy good Father and the Holy Spirit, glory, honour, majesty, power and worship, before all ages and forever.
Amen.
Amen.
Vespers (Eleventh Hour)
Instituted to commemorate the removing of the body of the Lord Jesus Christ from the Cross. The wrapping of it in linen, and the annointing of it with sweet spices.
Amen.
Alleluia.
The prayer of the Eleventh Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my King and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 116
O praise the Lord, all ye nations; praise Him, all ye peoples. For He has made His mercy to prevail over us, and the truth of the Lord abides forever. Alleluia.
Psalm 117
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel now say that He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Let the house of Aaron now say that He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Let all that fear the Lord now say that He is good, for His mercy endures forever.Out of my affliction I called upon the Lord, and He heard me and brought me into a broad place. The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me. The Lord is my helper, and I shall look down upon my enemies. It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to hope in the Lord than to hope in princes. All the nations compassed me round about, and by the name of the Lord I warded them off. Surrounding me they compassed me, and by the name of the Lord I warded them off. They compassed me about like bees around a honeycomb, and they burst into flame like a fire among the thorns, and by the name of the Lord I warded them off. I was pushed and overturned that I might fall, and the Lord was quick to help me. The Lord is my strength and my song, and He is become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous. The right hand of the Lord has wrought strength, the right hand of the Lord has exalted me, the right hand of the Lord wrought strength. I shall not die, but live, and I shall tell of the works of the Lord. With chastisement has the Lord chastened me, but he has not given me over unto death. Open unto me the gates of righteousness; I will enter therein and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord, the righteous shall enter in threat. I will give thanks to Thee, for Thou hast heard me and hast become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner. This in the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day which the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad therein. O Lord, save now; O Lord, send now prosperity. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. God is the Lord, and has appeared unto us. Ordain a feast with thick boughs, even unto the horns of the altar. Thou art my God, and I will confess Thee; Thou art my God, and I will exalt Thee. I will give thanks to Thee, for Thou hast heard me, and Thou art become my salvation. O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Alleluia.
Psalm 119
Unto the Lord in my affliction have I cried, and He heard me. O Lord, deliver my soul from unrighteous lips and from a crafty tongue. What shall be given unto Thee and what shall be added unto Thee for thy crafty tongue? The arrows of the mighty one, sharpened with coals of the desert. Woe is me, for my sojourning is prolonged; I have tented with the tenting of kedar, my soul has long been a sojourner. With them that hate peace I was peaceable; when I spoke to them, they warred against me without a cause. Alleluia.
Psalm 120
I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord, Who hast made heaven and the earth. Give not thy foot unto moving, and may He not slumber that keeps you. Behold, He shall not slumber nor shall He sleep, He that keeps Israel. The Lord shall keep you, the Lord is your shelter at your right hand. The sun shall not burn you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall keep you from all evil, the Lord shall guard your soul. The Lord shall keep your coming in and your going out, from now and forever more. Alleluia.
Psalm 121
I was glad because of them that said to me: Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet have stood in thy courts, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built as a city which its dwellers share in concord. For there the tribes went up, the tribes of the Lord, as a testimony for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. For there are set thrones unto judgment, thrones over the house of David. Ask now for the things which are for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the prosperity of them that love thee. Let peace be now in thy strength, and prosperity in your palaces. For the sake of my brothers and neighbours, I spoke peace concerning you. Because of the house of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for you. Alleluia.
Psalm 122
To Thee have I lifted up my eyes, to Thee that dwells in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the handmaid looks to the hands of her mistress, so do our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He takes pity on us. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. For greatly are we filled with humility. Greatly has our soul been filled; let reproach come to them that prosper, and humility on the proud. Alleluia.
Psalm 123
Had it not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say, had it not been that the Lord was with us. When men rose up against us, then had they swallowed us up alive. When their wrath raged against us, then had the water overwhelmed us. Our soul has passed through a torrent; ; then had our soul passed through the water that is irresistible. Blessed be the Lord Who has not given us to be a prey to their teeth. Our soul like a sparrow was delivered out of the snare of the hunters . The snare is broken, and we are delivered. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who has made heaven and the earth. Alleluia.
Psalm 124
They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Sion; he that dwells at Jerusalem, nevermore shall he be shaken. Mountains are round about her, and the Lord is round about His people from now and forever more. For the Lord will not permit the rod of sinners to be upon the lot of the righteous, for fear that the righteous stretch forth their hands to iniquities. Do good, O Lord to them that are good and to the upright of heart. But them that turn aside to crooked ways shall the Lord lead away with the workers of iniquity; peace be upon Israel. Alleluia.
Psalm 125
When the Lord turned again the captivity of Sion, we became as men that are comforted. Then was our mouth filled with joy, and our tongue with rejoicing. Then shall they say among the nations: The Lord has done great things unto them. The Lord has done great things among us, and we have become glad. Turn again, O Lord, our captivity, like streams in the south. They that sow with tears shall reap with rejoicing. In their going they went, and they wept as they cast their seeds. But in their coming shall they come with rejoicing, bearing their sheaves. Alleluia
Psalm 126
Except the Lord build the house, in vain do they labour that build it. Except the Lord guard the city, in vain does he watch that guards her; it is vain for you to rise at dawn. You that eat the bread of sorrow, rouse yourselves after resting, when He has given sleep to His beloved. Lo, sons are the heritage of the Lord, the reward of the fruit of the womb. Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the sons of them that were outcasts. Blessed is he that shall fulfill his desires with them; they shall not be put to shame when they speak to their enemies in the gates. Alleluia.
Psalm 127
Blessed are all they that fear the Lord, that walk in His ways. You shall eat the fruit of your labours; blessed are you, and well shall it be with you. Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine on the sides of your house. Your sons like young olive trees around your table. Behold, so shall the man be blessed that fears the Lord. The Lord bless you out of Sion, and may you see the good things of Jerusalem all the days of your life. And may you see your children's children; peace be upon Israel. Alleluia.
Psalm 128
Many a time have they warred against me from my youth, let Israel now say. Many a time have they warred against me from my youth, and yet they have not prevailed against me. The sinners wrought upon my back, they lengthened out their iniquity. The Lord is righteous; He has cut asunder the necks of sinners. Let them be put to shame and turned back, all they that hate Sion. Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which before it is plucked up is withered away. Wherefore the reaper fills not his hand, nor he that gathers sheaves his bosom. Nor have they that passed by said: The blessing of the Lord come upon you; we have blessed you in the name of the Lord. Alleluia.
Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to St. Luke. May his blessings be upon us all, Amen.
LK.4:38-41
And He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. And He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them. Now when the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of God!" And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.
Glory be to God Forever. Amen.
May Thy Saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou come and saved us.
If the righteous be scarcely saved, where shall I, a sinner, appear? The heaviness of the day and its heat I endured not by reason of my weak nature, but O Thou merciful God, deem me with those of the eleventh hour ; for , behold , I was conceived in iniquities and in sins did my mother bear me. Wherefore, I presume not lift my eyes to Heaven, but relying on the abundance of Thy mercy and Thy love toward mankind, crying out and saying: "O God forgive me, a sinner, and have mercy on me."
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
Make haste, O my Saviour, and lay open Thy paternal bosom, for in pleasures and lusts have I spent my life, and behold the day is far spent and passed away. Wherefore, I now trust in the abundance of Thy never-ending mercy. So forsake not a trembling heart, lacking Thy mercy, for unto Thee I cry with fear: "Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before Thee, and I am not worthy to be called Thy son; so make me as one of Thy hired servants."
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
With diligence did I endeavour in every transgression, and with eagerness did I strive to commit every sin, and of all suffering and judgment am I deserving, wherefore, blessed Virgin, prepare for me the way of repentance, for thee I beseech and through thee I intercede and to thee I appeal to help me, lest I be ashamed. And be my attendant at my soul's departure from my body. Overthrow the conspiracies of the enemies, shut fast the gates of Hades lest they devour my soul, O blameless bride of the true Bridegroom.
O Lord, hear us, have mercy on us, and forgive our sins.

Then the worshipper prays this absolution:
We thank Thee, O our Compassionate King, that Thou hast granted us to pass this day in peace, and brought us thankfully to the evening, and made us worthy to behold the light until evening. O God, accept our glorification which we have offered Thee at this time. Deliver us from the intrigues of the adversary, and annul all his snares set against us, and grant us a peaceful night free from all pain, restlessness, fatigue, or illusion, that we may pass through it in peace and chastity, and rise up to give praises and prayers at all times and everywhere, ascribing glory unto Thy holy Name, together with the Father who is incomprehensible and without beginning, and the Holy Spirit, the Life giver, Who is equal with Thee both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The prayer of every hour
Have mercy on us O God, and have mercy on us. Thou who, at all times, and at every hour, in Heaven and on earth art worshipped and glorified. Compline (Twelfth Hour)
This hour commemorates the laying down of the body of Christ in the grave. It corresponds to the last hour of the day before retiring, since sleep is but a temporary death (Psalm 62:6)
Amen.
Make us, O Lord, worthy to say with all thanksgiving:

Alleluia.
The prayer of the Twelfth Hour of the blessed day, I offer to Christ my King and my God, beseeching Him to forgive my sins.
Psalm 129
Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If Thou should mark iniquities, O Lord; O Lord, who shall stand? For with Thee there is forgiveness. For Thy name's sake have I patiently waited for Thee, O Lord; my soul has waited patiently for Thy word, my soul has hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch until night,, from the morning watch let Israel hope in the Lord. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption; and He shall redeem Israel out of all his iniquities. Alleluia.
Psalm 130
O Lord, my heart is not exalted, nor are my eyes become lofty. Nor have I walked in things too great or too marvelous for me. If I were not humble-minded but exalted my soul, as one weaned from his mother, so would Thou requite my soul. Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth and forever more. Alleluia.
Psalm 131
Remember, O Lord, David and all his meekness. How he made an oath to the Lord, and vowed to the God of Jacob: I shall not go into the dwelling of my house, I shall not ascend upon the bed of my couch. I shall not give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids, nor rest to my temples. Until I find a place for the Lord, a habitation for the God of Jacob. Lo, we have heard of it in Ephratha, we have found it in the plains of the wood. Let us go forth into His tabernacles, let us worship at the place where His feet have stood. Arise, O Lord, into Thy rest, Thou and the ark of Thy holiness. Thy priests shall be clothed with righteousness, and Thy righteous shall rejoice. For the sake of David Thy servant, turn not Thy face away from Thine anointed one. The Lord has sworn in truth unto David, and He will not annul it: of the fruit of thy loins will I set upon thy throne. If thy sons keep My covenant and these testimonies which I will teach them, their sons also shall sit forever on thy throne. For the Lord has elected Sion, He has chosen her to be a habitation for Himself. This is My rest forever and ever, here will I dwell, for I have chosen her. Blessing, I will bless her pursuits; her beggars will I satisfy with bread. Her priests will I clothe with salvation, and her saints with rejoicing shall rejoice. There will I make to spring forth a horn for David. I have prepared a lamp for My Christ. His enemies will I clothe with shame, but upon Him shall My sanctification flourish. Alleluia.
Psalm 132
Behold now, what is so good or so joyous as for brethren to dwell together in unity? It is like the oil of myrrh upon the head, which runs down upon the beard, upon the beard of Aaron, which runs down to the fringe of his raiment. It is like the dew of Aermon, which comes down upon the mountains of Sion. For there the Lord commanded the blessings, life for evermore. Alleluia.
Psalm 133
Behold now, bless ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord. Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God, in the nights lift up your hands unto the holies, and bless the Lord. The Lord bless you out of Sion, He that made heaven and the earth. Alleluia.
Psalm 136
By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and we wept when we remembered Sion. Upon the willows in the midst thereof did we hang our instruments. For there, they that had taken us captive asked us for words of song. And they that had led us away asked us for a hymn, saying: Sing us one of the songs of Sion. How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten. Let my tongue cleave to my throat, if I remember thee not, if I set not Jerusalem above all other, as a the head of my joy. Remember, O Lord, the sons of Edom, in the day of Jerusalem. Who said: Lay waste, lay waste to her, even to the foundations thereof. O daughter of Babylon, you wretched one, blessed shall he be who shall reward you wherewith you have rewarded us. Blessed shall he be who shall seize and dash your infants against the rock. Alleluia.
Psalm 137
I will confess Thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; and before angels will I chant unto Thee, for Thou hast heard all the words of my mouth. I will worship towards Thy holy temple and confess Thy name, for Thy mercy and for Thy truth; for Thou hast magnified Thy holy name above all that is. In whatsoever day I call upon Thee, quickly hear me; Thou shalt abundantly endow my soul with Thy strength. Let all the kings of the earth, O Lord, confess Thee, for they have heard all the words of Thy mouth. And let them sing in the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. For the Lord is exalted, yet on lowly things He looks; and things haughty He knows from afar. Though I should walk in the midst of affliction, Thou shalt quicken me; against the wrath of my enemies hast Thou stretched forth Thy hands, and Thy right hand has saved me. The Lord shall give recompense in my behalf. O Lord, Thy mercy endures forever; disdain not the work of Thy hands. Alleluia.
Psalm 140
Lord, I have cried unto Thee, hear me; attend to the voice of my supplication when I cry unto Thee. Let my prayer be set forth as incense before Thee, the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice. Set, O Lord, a watch before my mouth, and a door of enclosure round about my lips. Incline not my heart unto words of evil, to make excuse with excuses in sins, with men that work iniquity; and I will not join with their chosen. The righteous man will chasten me with mercy and reprove me; as for the oil of the sinner, let it not anoint my head. For yet more is my prayer in the presence of their pleasures; swallowed up near by the rock have their judges been. They shall hear my words, for they be sweetened; as a clod of earth is broken upon the earth, so have their bones been scattered nigh unto Hades. For unto Thee, O Lord, O Lord, are our eyes, in Thee have I hoped; take not my soul away. Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, and from the stumbling-blocks of them that work iniquity. The sinners shall fall into their own net; I am alone until I pass by. Alleluia.
Psalm 141
With my voice unto the Lord have I cried, with my voice unto the Lord have I made supplication. I will pour our before Him my supplication, my affliction before Him will I declare. When my spirit was fainting within me, then Thou knew my paths. In this way wherein I have walked they hid for me a snare. I looked upon my right hand, and beheld, and there was none that did know me. Flight has failed me, and there is none that watches out for my soul. I have cried unto Thee, O Lord: I said: Thou art my hope, my portion art Thou in the land of the living. Attend unto my supplication, for I am brought very low. Deliver me from them that persecute me, for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison that I may confess Thy name. The righteous shall wait patiently for me until Thou shalt reward me. Alleluia.
Psalm 145
Praise the Lord, O my soul, I will praise the Lord in my life, I will chant unto my God for as long as I have my being. Trust not in princes, in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit shall go forth, and he shall return unto his earth. In that day all his thoughts shall perish. Blessed is he of whom the God of Jacob is his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God, Who has made heaven and the earth, the sea and all that in therein, Who keeps truth to eternity, Who executes judgment for the wronged, Who give food to the hungry. The Lord looses the fettered; the Lord makes wise the blind; the Lord sets aright the fallen; the Lord loves the righteous; the Lord preserves the proselytes. He shall adopt for His own the orphan and widow, and the way of sinners shall He destroy. The Lord shall be King to eternity; your God, O Sion, from generation to generation. Alleluia.
Psalm 146
Praise the Lord, for a psalm is a good thing; let praise be sweet unto our God. The Lord builds up Jerusalem, He shall gather together the dispersed of Israel. He heals the broken in heart and binds their fractures together. He numbers the multitude of the stars and calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and great is His strength, and of His understanding there is no measure. The Lord lifts up the meek, but humbles sinners to the earth. Begin your song to the Lord with thanksgiving, chant unto God with the harp. To Him that covers heaven with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains, and green herb for the service of man, Who gives to the beasts their food, and to the younglings of the
ravens which call upon Him. He shall not delight in the strength of a horse, nor in the legs of man is He well pleased. The Lord is well pleased in them that fear Him, and in them that hope in His mercy. Alleluia.
Psalm 147
Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Sion. For He has strengthened the bars of your gates, He has blessed your sons within thee. He brings peace upon your borders, and with the fatness of the wheat He fills you. He sends His saying to the earth; right swiftly runs His word. He gives His snow like wool; the mist He sprinkles like ashes. He hurls His ice like morsels. Who shall stand before His cold? He shall send forth His word and melt them; His wind shall blow and the waters shall flow. He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and judgments to Israel. He has not dealt so with every nation, nor has He shown His judgments to them, Alleluia.
Glory be to God, Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint Luke. May his blessings be upon us all Amen.
LK.2:25-32
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for Him after the custom of the law, then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word: for my eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Glory be to God forever. Amen.
May Thy saying be concluded in peace. We worship Thee O Christ together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us.
Behold I am about to stand before the just Judge, trembling and exceedingly afraid on account of my many sins, for a life spent in pleasures deserves condemnation. But repent, O my soul, while you are dwelling on earth, for the dust in the grave offers no praise; and the dead remember not; nor do they who are in Hades offer thanks. But arise from the slumber of indolence imploring the Saviour and repenting and crying out saying: "O God have mercy on me and save me."
"Zoksapatri ke lyou-ke agi-you epnevmaty" (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.)
If this life was permanent and this world eternal, you would have had,O my soul, an apparent execuse; but when your bad deeds and shameful sins are exposed before the just Judge, what will you give in answer while you are lying down on the bed of transgression, slow to control your body. O Christ, our God, before Thy dreadful judgment seat am I afraid, and of the counsel of Thy Judgment do I dread, and of the radiance of Thy Divinity do I tremble, I the wicked and defiled, who is lying down upon my bed, careless about my life. Yet like the publican, I beat upon my breast and cry: "O God be merciful to me, a sinner,"
"Kenin ke aa-ee ke-ic-touce e-on-ace ton e-onon Amen."(Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.)
O Pure Virgin, draw the veil of thy speedy protection upon thy servant. Remove from me the billows of evil thoughts and raise my sick soul to pray and watch, because it has long lain in deep sleep; for thou art able, merciful, helpful, and the Birthgiver of the Spring of Life, my King and my God, Jesus Christ, my hope. Grant, O Lord, to keep us this night without sin, blessed art Thou, O Lord, God of our fathers, and full of blessings, and glorified is Thy Holy Name forever. Amen.
Let Thy mercy be upon us as we have set our hope on Thee, for the eyes of all hope on Thee, for Thou givest them their food in due season. Hear us O God, our Saviour, the hope of all the earth, and Thou, O Lord, will keep us and deliver us from this generation, and forever. Amen. Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy righteousness, blessed are Thou O Lord, make me understand Thy truth, blessed art Thou, O Lord, enlighten me in Thy righteousness. O Lord, Thy mercy is forever, despise not the works of Thy hands for Thou, O Lord, art our refuge, from generation unto generation. I cried unto the Lord and said: "Have mercy on me and save my soul for I have sinned against Thee." O Lord, unto Thee I flee for refuge, save me and teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God, with Thee is the Fountain of Life, and in Thy Light shall we see Light. Let Thy mercy come upon those who know Thee, and Thy righteousness to the upright in heart. Unto Thee is due blessing, unto Thee is due praise, unto Thee is due glory, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, ever existent, Amen. Good it is to praise the Lord, and to give thanks to Thy Name, O Most High, to declare Thy mercies in the mornings and Thy truth at every eventide.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now, and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen. Amen.
Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God
Hail thee. We ask thee, O saint, full of glory, the ever-virgin, the mother of Christ God; to lift up our prayers to Thy beloved son that He may forgive our sins. Hail her, the saint, the Virgin, who gave birth to the True Light, Christ Our Lord; ask the Lord to have mercy on us and forgive our sins. O Virgin Mary, Birthgiver of God, the faithful intercessor of the human race, intercede for us before Christ to whom thou gave birth, that He may grant us forgiveness of our sins. Hail thee, O Virgin, the true queen. Hail her who is the pride of our race, who gave birth to Emmanuel. We ask thee to remember us, O faithful intercessor, before our Lord, Jesus Christ, that He forgive our sins.
Introduction of the Creed
We magnify thee, O mother of the True Light, and we glorify thee, O Virgin Saint Birhtgiver of God, for thou hast born unto us the Saviour of the world; He came and saved our souls. Glory be to Thee, O Christ, our Master and our King, the honour of the apostles, the crown of the martyrs, the rejoicing of the righteous, the confirmation of the churches, the forgiveness of sins.
Amen.
Then the worshipper prays this absolution:
O Lord, all things wherein we have sinned against Thee this day, whether in deed, or in word, or in thought, or in any feeling; do Thou graciously remit and forgive unto us, for the sake of Thy Holy Name, as good and lover of man, and grant us, O God, a peaceful night, and a sleep free from all worry. Send us an angel of peace to guard us from all evil, all plague, and all temptation of the enemy. Through the grace and mercies and love of man of Thine Only-begotten Son, our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ, through whom is due all honour and glory together with Thee and the Holy Spirit, the Life-giver, who is consubstantial with Thee both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.
Amen.
