Lot Lost His Testimony

KEY VERSE: "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished," 2 Peter 2:9.

As you read the life story of Lot, what do you see? Do you see anyone in your life experience who can be compared to Lot? In fact, do you see yourself?

As Lot became richer, he grew apart from his righteous Uncle Abraham. It had been a privilege to walk with Abraham who walked with God. But Lot wasted his privileges.

Lot had gone down to Egypt with Abraham and was inspired by what he saw there. Abraham took Lot out of Egypt, but he could not take Egypt out of Lot. When he chose a place to live, Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom. All the while Lot lived in Sodom, his soul was disturbed by the filthy living he witnessed.

God did not rescue Lot because of any merit on his part. He was rescued because he was a believer and because his uncle prayed for him. Lot lost his testimony to his own family, for his married daughters and their husbands laughed at his warning, and his wife disobeyed God and was turned into a pillar of salt.

Peter was not pointing to Lot as an example of separated living but as an example of one whom God rescued from pollution and sinful surroundings. Lot was even rescued against his will because the angels had to grasp him by the hand and pull him out of the city. He found it difficult to leave.

Our present age is like the days of Lot. Many believers have abandoned separation and are compromising with the world. Judgment day is coming. God's mercy does not last forever.

LIVING IT: Do not sacrifice your testimony.
