Genesis 18:1-15

Sarah Shall Bear a Son

KEY VERSE: "Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son," Genesis 18:14.

You would have thought that Sarah would have known that the God who created the universe had the power to make anything happen. So, why did Sarah laugh? Much like us, she tended to think that she must make things happen through her own efforts.

No doubt God has a sense of humor, but He is never joking when He makes promises. Nor does He lack the power to bring about His will.

Has God promised us something? He will do it! Has God warned us about something? We should take that warning seriously. If what we hope for never happens, it is not because God lacks the power to make it happen. If it is God's will, it will happen.

The God of surprises produced another one. Sarah's womb was too old for babies, but Sarah was pregnant!

Look at others as well. When the failure was too great for grace, David was pardoned.

So, what is the lesson for us? Do not give up! Is the road too long? Do not stop! Is the night too black? Do not quit.

God is watching. Right at this moment ... the check may be in the mail. The apology may be in the making. The job contact may be on the desk.

Do not quit. If you do, you may miss the answer to your prayers.

LIVING IT: Believe God can make anything happen and trust Him to do His will in your life.

Mary McCalister
