Lot Lost His Influence
KEY VERSE: "And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place: for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law," Genesis 19:14.
Most of us who are parents have raised our children with the highest of expectations. To admit they have let us down is painful.
Lot could be used to represent so many men of today. Where you might find one Abraham, one Daniel or one Joshua, you will find a thousand Lots.
Like many young men, Lot started off well. But his life was affected by a number of bad choices. He was affected by two passions—ambition and avarice (greed). He chose to live in the plains, where he believed life would be easier. But he overlooked one thing—his choice included the wicked city of Sodom.
Peter seemed to feel Lot's real character, writing, "And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation [lifestyle] of the wicked. (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)" (2 Peter 2:7,8).
No doubt there are many believers now who are living in similar circumstances. Perhaps they have chosen to live in an area where there is no church. Instead of speaking up and taking a stand against wicked lifestyles, they just shrug and keep silent.
LIVING IT: Are you influencing people for good, or are you compromising?
