He Came To Redeem
KEY VERSES: "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons," Galatians 4:4, 5.
As this is being written, a fine young couple in our church is going through the process of adopting a baby. It has been a long drawn-out process but should end happily soon. Adoption can be a happy experience.
In 1952, a probation officer in New York City tried to find an organization that would assist in the adoption of a twelve-year-old boy. Although the boy had a religious background, none of the major denominations would assist in his adoption. The officer said that the boy's case had been reported to him because he had been a truant. The officer tried for a year to find an agency that would care for this needy youngster. Neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish institutions would take the boy because he came from a denomination they did not recognize. The officer could do nothing for him.
If the principles of Christian love had prevailed in 1952, perhaps a good home could have been found for that young, mixed-up lad. In fact, history might have been changed. For, you see, that boy was Lee Harvey Oswald.
We can rejoice in the boundless love of God, who adopts believers into His family, placing them as His sons. We have received the Spirit of adoption, that is, the Spirit of sonship. Thus, we can call God our Father.
LIVING IT: Rejoice in Christ if God is your Heavenly Father.
