The Effect of Sodom's Life-style

KEY VERSE: "And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt," Genesis 19:29.

A distinguished minister often preached on sin. One of his church members came to talk with him later. He said, "We do not want you to talk as plainly as you do about sin. If our boys and girls hear you talking so much about sin, they will be more likely to become sinners."

The minister went to a utility closet and brought back a small bottle of strychnine that was clearly marked Rat Poison. He said, "I see what you want me to do. You want me to change the label. Suppose I take off this label of 'Poison' and put on some milder label, such as 'Essence of Peppermint.' Do you not see what might happen? The milder you make the label, the more dangerous you make the poison."

Look at our country today. Homosexuality—sodomy if you will—is not a sin; it is an alternate life-style. It is surprising that God does not visit His judgment upon us as He did the cities of the plain.

Not only God's judgment was shown here but also His mercy. "God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow" (verse 29). It is only God's mercy that keeps our country alive today. We must tell it like it is and not mislabel sin if we are to survive.

LIVING IT: Sin is sin, and God's judgment will surely come.
