Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, ye afflicted men, and ye princes of this people that is in Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with Hades, and agreements with death; if the rushing storm should pass, it shall not come upon us: we have made falsehood our hope, and by falsehood shall we be protected: Therefore thus saith the Lord, even the Lord, Behold, I lay for the foundations of Sion a costly stone, a choice, a corner-stone, a precious stone, for its foundations; and he that believes on him shall by no means be ashamed. And I will cause judgement to be for hope, and my compassion shall be for just measures, and ye that trust vainly in falsehood shall fall: for the storm shall by no means pass by you, except it also take away your covenant of death, and your trust in Hades shall by no means stand: if the rushing storm should come upon you, ye shall be beaten down by it. Whenever it shall pass by, it shall take you; morning by morning it shall pass by in the day, and in the night there shall be an evil hope. Learn to hear, ye that are distressed; we cannot fight, but we are ourselves too weak for you to be gathered. If thou walkest with wise men thou shalt be wise: but he that walks with fools shall be known. Evil shall pursue sinners; but good shall overtake the righteous. A good man shall inherit children's children; and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just. The righteous shall spend many years in wealth: but the unrighteous shall perish suddenly. He that spares the rod hates his son: but he that loves, carefully chastens him. A just man eats and satisfies his soul: but the souls of the ungodly are in want.
Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs hers down with her hands. He that walks uprightly fears the Lord; but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonoured. Out of the mouth of fools comes a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them. Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean; but where there is abundant produce, the strength of the ox is apparent. A faithful witness does not lie; but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods. Thou shalt seek wisdom with bad men, and shalt not find it; but discretion is easily available with the prudent.

Посему так говорит Господь Бог: вот, Я полагаю в основание на Сионе камень, - камень испытанный, краеугольный, драгоценный, крепко утвержденный: верующий в него не постыдится. И поставлю суд мерилом и правду весами; и градом истребится убежище лжи, и воды потопят место укрывательства. И союз ваш со смертью рушится, и договор ваш с преисподнею не устоит. Когда пойдет всепоражающий бич, вы будете попраны. Как скоро он пойдет, схватит вас; ходить же будет каждое утро, день и ночь, и один слух о нем будет внушать ужас. Слишком коротка будет постель, чтобы протянуться; слишком узко и одеяло, чтобы завернуться в него. Ибо восстанет Господь, как на горе Перациме; разгневается, как на долине Гаваонской, чтобы сделать дело Свое, необычайное дело, и совершить действие Свое, чудное Свое действие. Итак не кощунствуйте, чтобы узы ваши не стали крепче; ибо я слышал от Господа, Бога Саваофа, что истребление определено для всей земли.

И сошел Господь посмотреть город и башню, которые строили сыны человеческие. И сказал Господь: вот, один народ, и один у всех язык; и вот что начали они делать, и не отстанут они от того, что задумали делать; сойдем же и смешаем там язык их, так чтобы один не понимал речи другого. И рассеял их Господь оттуда по всей земле; и они перестали строить город и башню. Посему дано ему имя: Вавилон, ибо там смешал Господь язык всей земли, и оттуда рассеял их Господь по всей земле.

Желание исполнившееся - приятно для души; но несносно для глупых уклоняться от зла. Общающийся с мудрыми будет мудр, а кто дружит с глупыми, развратится. Грешников преследует зло, а праведникам воздается добром. Добрый оставляет наследство и внукам, а богатство грешника сберегается для праведного. Много хлеба бывает и на ниве бедных; но некоторые гибнут от беспорядка. Кто жалеет розги своей, тот ненавидит сына; а кто любит, тот с детства наказывает его.
Мудрая жена устроит дом свой, а глупая разрушит его своими руками. Идущий прямым путем боится Господа; но чьи пути кривы, тот небрежет о Нем. В устах глупого - бич гордости; уста же мудрых охраняют их. Где нет волов, там ясли пусты; а много прибыли от силы волов. Верный свидетель не лжет, а свидетель ложный наговорит много лжи. Распутный ищет мудрости, и не находит; а для разумного знание легко.
