Proverbs Day 38 (KJV):







Proverbs 6:12-15(KJV): "A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy."



Proverbs 6:12-15(Amplified): "A worthless person, a wicked man is he who goes about with a perverse (contrary, wayward) mouth. 13 He winks with his eyes, he speaks by shuffling or tapping his feet, he makes signs (to mislead and deceive)and teaches with his fingers. 14 Willful and contrary in his heart, he devises trouble, vexation and evil continually; he lets loose discord, and sows it. 15 Therefore upon him shall the crushing weight of calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken and that without remedy."









Thoughts for the Day



These verses in Proverbs are very descriptive in their characterization of a charlatan. Many people are taken advantage of by worthless and naughty people who use different means and scams to con people out of their money. In our day, a "froward mouth" would be someone that we would call a "slick talker." They lie and give a convincing story to con people out of their money. Telephone scams are so notorious, that many people are putting blocks on their telephones to avoid these kind of encounters. Many evil people prey on Christians because they are good hearted. I have even heard wicked men say how gullible Christians are, stating that they will believe anything. As Christians, we should ask the Lord for discernment to know when someone is trying to cheat us, so we will not be taken advantage of. We should never be pressured into giving or buying something without asking the Holy Spirit to guide us in these areas.



The Bible warns us that there will be people who are false prophets, pretending to be sheep; yet, they are wolves in sheep's clothing. Just because people use the name of Jesus and come in His name does not guarantee they are really true Christians.



Matthew 7:15: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."



The Lord instructs us to examine the fruit of someone's life to see if they really are of God. A good question to ask about a person's actions is -- Would Jesus act this way? Would Jesus do this? If the person is not acting in a godly manner, we can know, at best, he is not walking in the Spirit or, at worst, he is an emissary of the devil. Notice in the verse 13 how a charlatan uses a lot of body language to express himself. Often they will have partners in crime, whom they will signal with certain actions, to fool people. This happens many times in gambling halls and casinos. Gamblers are set up to lose. Gambling is a sin and as Christians we should never go to these places unless God has called us there to share the gospel. Gambling addiction is now a growing epidemic in our nation.



Notice in verse 14 that the wicked man sows discord and mischief among his acquaintances. Such a man is not a peace maker. In verse 15 we also see the end of people like this -- they will end up broken, as calamity will overtake them. It will come suddenly when they do not expect it, and there will be no way out, nor any remedy. We must ask the Lord to keep us from getting involved with these kind of people. We should also ask Him to keep us from falling into the trap of gambling or any other thing that would allow the enemy to rob from us.











Prayer for the Day



Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you today for keeping me from evil people who would be set on destroying me or my family.? Lord, I need your discernment to help me to know when I should give, and when I should not give to people.? I want to be generous, but I do not want the enemy fooling me and causing me to waste my money on the wrong things.? Lead me by Your Spirit to know the things I should do, and the things I should not do. Lord, I pray today for my Christian brothers and sisters who are addicted to gambling. Help them to get free and deliver them from all forms of gambling.? Lord, show them that Lotto is not the answer to their financial problems. Teach them how to manage their monetary affairs according to the Word of God. ? When we do that, we are promised blessing from You.? In the name of Jesus, I pray.? Amen.

Day By Day By Grace Bob Hoekstra February 7th Faith and Grace


Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand…therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace…"the just shall live by faith." (Romans 5:2; 4:16; 1:17)

As noted previously, faith accesses the grace of God. "Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand." When we first trusted in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we enjoyed our initial access into grace. God intends for His children to continue accessing grace day by day throughout their lives. Every time we face any matter with dependence upon the Lord Jesus, we are drawing from the bottomless ocean of God's grace. Thereby, His grace becomes our resource for living.



The resources of God's grace cannot be earned, deserved, or produced by man. They must be freely provided by the Lord. From beginning to end, the saving, rescuing, transforming work of God's grace is "the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). This truth highlights the strategic nature of faith. Only faith accords with grace. "Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace." Faith alone is compatible with grace. Any other approach will not fit with grace.



This marks another profound distinction between law and grace. "Yet the law is not of faith, but 'The man who does them shall live by them'" (Galatians 3:12). The law is about performance. Those who live by the law are left to their own resources to work up a life that measures up to the perfect standards of God. Those who daily put their faith in the Lord Jesus for the issues of life access grace for godly living.



It is God's will that we live our entire lives by faith (which accesses grace). "The just shall live by faith." This truth is comprehensive. It applies to every aspect of our lives. When we arise in the morning, we can entrust the day into the Lord's care and guidance. As we communicate with our families, we can depend upon Jesus for love and patience. In our drive to the office, we can pray in faith concerning the opportunities and challenges that may await us. If a crisis develops unexpectedly, we can immediately cry out to the Lord for peace and direction. When times of Bible study and worship approach, we can exercise faith toward God to make them spiritually genuine and personally effective. Whatever, whenever, whoever, "The just shall live by faith."



Dear faithful Lord, I long to live by faith more and more as each day dawns. I see that this is the only way I can access Your glorious grace. Lord, I need Your grace constantly. No other resource will suffice. Too often I am striving by my best performance. What weariness and failure always results. Show me the areas of my life where I am not trusting in You, that I might look to You anew. In Your gracious name I pray, Amen.

This is our excellent comfort. This is our glorious delight.

Morning Reading "Arise, and depart." — Micah 2:10





The hour is approaching when the message will come to us, as it comes to all—"Arise, and go forth from the home in which thou hast dwelt, from the city in which thou hast done thy business, from thy family, from thy friends. Arise, and take thy last journey." And what know we of the journey? And what know we of the country to which we are bound? A little we have read thereof, and somewhat has been revealed to us by the Spirit; but how little do we know of the realms of the future! We know that there is a black and stormy river called "Death." God bids us cross it, promising to be with us. And, after death, what cometh? What wonder-world will open upon our astonished sight? What scene of glory will be unfolded to our view? No traveller has ever returned to tell. But we know enough of the heavenly land to make us welcome our summons thither with joy and gladness. The journey of death may be dark, but we may go forth on it fearlessly, knowing that God is with us as we walk through the gloomy valley, and therefore we need fear no evil. We shall be departing from all we have known and loved here, but we shall be going to our Father's house—to our Father's home, where Jesus is—to that royal "city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." This shall be our last removal, to dwell for ever with Him we love, in the midst of His people, in the presence of God. Christian, meditate much on heaven, it will help thee to press on, and to forget the toil of the way. This vale of tears is but the pathway to the better country: this world of woe is but the stepping-stone to a world of bliss.



"Prepare us, Lord, by grace divine,

For Thy bright courts on high;

Then bid our spirits rise, and join

The chorus of the sky."

Evening Reading "And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither." — Revelation 11:12





Without considering these words in their prophetical connection, let us regard them as the invitation of our great Forerunner to His sanctified people. In due time there shall be heard "a great voice from heaven" to every believer, saying, "Come up hither." This should be to the saints the subject of joyful anticipation. Instead of dreading the time when we shall leave this world to go unto the Father, we should be panting for the hour of our emancipation. Our song should be—



"My heart is with Him on His throne,

And ill can brook delay;

Each moment listening for the voice,

'Rise up and come away.'"

We are not called down to the grave, but up to the skies. Our heaven-born spirits should long for their native air. Yet should the celestial summons be the object of patient waiting. Our God knows best when to bid us "Come up thither." We must not wish to antedate the period of our departure. I know that strong love will make us cry,

"O Lord of Hosts, the waves divide,

And land us all in heaven;"

but patience must have her perfect work. God ordains with accurate wisdom the most fitting time for the redeemed to abide below. Surely, if there could be regrets in heaven, the saints might mourn that they did not live longer here to do more good. Oh, for more sheaves for my Lord's garner! more jewels for His crown! But how, unless there be more work? True, there is the other side of it, that, living so briefly, our sins are the fewer; but oh! when we are fully serving God, and He is giving us to scatter precious seed, and reap a hundredfold, we would even say it is well for us to abide where we are. Whether our Master shall say "go," or "stay," let us be equally well pleased so long as He indulges us with His presence.

Leviticus 1-3; Matthew 24:1-28When our granddaughter Julia was very small, we took her on a driving trip over an Idaho mountain road. Afterward, she and her Nana were having a conversation about the “adventure.” “I don’t worry because I think Papa has a guardian angel,” Nana said. “I think he must have a team of guardian angels!” Julia replied.



The mission of angels is to protect and serve the children of God (Heb. 1:13-14). The psalmist said, “The chariots of God are . . . thousands of thousands; the Lord is among them” (Ps. 68:17). God is the “Lord of hosts,” which means “armies.” The angels are the Lord’s army.



In 2 Kings we read about Elisha and his servant who were surrounded by the Syrian army. Elisha’s servant cried out, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” Elisha replied, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he saw that “the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around” (6:15-17). The Lord’s army was at hand!



Even though we cannot see them with our natural eyes, we can rest in the confidence that the Lord of Hosts is constantly watching over us and He has an invisible army at His bidding to send where He pleases.

Spiritual Dejection

Every fact that the disciples stated was right, but the conclusions they drew from those facts were wrong. Anything that has even a hint of dejection spiritually is always wrong. If I am depressed or burdened, I am to blame, not God or anyone else. Dejection stems from one of two sources— I have either satisfied a lust or I have not had it satisfied. In either case, dejection is the result. Lust means “I must have it at once.” Spiritual lust causes me to demand an answer from God, instead of seeking God Himself who gives the answer. What have I been hoping or trusting God would do? Is today “the third day” and He has still not done what I expected? Am I therefore justified in being dejected and in blaming God? Whenever we insist that God should give us an answer to prayer we are off track. The purpose of prayer is that we get ahold of God, not of the answer. It is impossible to be well physically and to be dejected, because dejection is a sign of sickness. This is also true spiritually. Dejection spiritually is wrong, and we are always to blame for it.



We look for visions from heaven and for earth-shaking events to see God’s power. Even the fact that we are dejected is proof that we do this. Yet we never realize that all the time God is at work in our everyday events and in the people around us. If we will only obey, and do the task that He has placed closest to us, we will see Him. One of the most amazing revelations of God comes to us when we learn that it is in the everyday things of life that we realize the magnificent deity of Jesus Christ.
