Reasons for Separation
KEY VERSE: "That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God," Deuteronomy 20:18.
Two rivals were playing a college basketball game. There were no fans in the stands to cheer on the teams. In fact, the only people in the arena were the players, coaches, officials and personnel needed to televise the game. One of the players had come down with measles before the game. Fans were not allowed to attend the game for fear of setting off a measles epidemic.
The Israelites spent four centuries as slaves to the Egyptians. The Egyptians were difficult taskmasters. During this time, the Israelites witnessed the godless life-style of the Egyptians. The Egyptians worshiped idols and often did not adhere to a high moral standard. Some Israelites began to follow the godless life-style of their Egyptian taskmasters. This was in opposition to God's desire that they worship and serve Him alone. The Israelites were encouraged not to follow the actions of the godless Egyptians and serve God alone.
Christians must be distinct from the ungodly. Their mind should be set on spiritual things and not on things of the flesh. Their desire should be to please God and not self or mankind. Their actions must follow the Word of God and not the dictates of the flesh. Christians should be separate from the world lest they emulate the actions of the world.
JUST A THOUGHT: A Christian's testimony is too precious to waste.
