The Family of Esau

KEY VERSE: "And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob," Genesis 36:6.

Esau and Jacob did not have the normal relationship of brothers. There was resentment and jealousy that stemmed from their youth. Lost in their personal battle was that they were part of the promise God made to Abraham of a great nation. If Esau and Jacob had exercised forgiveness toward one another, they would have had a proper relationship. Esau decided to take his family to the country of Edom to get away from Jacob.

The dysfunctional relationship between Esau and Jacob hindered their spirituality. Because they did not exercise love and forgiveness, there was great stress on both families. How can families avoid similar stresses? The family unit must be a spiritual unit. Families must worship God and seek His will. They must exercise love and forgiveness toward one another. They should give thanks for the provisions of God. The family who serves God together is less likely to fall apart.

Families must give God His proper place. This country is falling apart spiritually because God is left out of the family unit. Churches fall apart because families have forgotten to assemble themselves together in church capacity. The number one need in America is for the family unit to return to God.

JUST A THOUGHT: A spiritual family is made up of spiritual people.
