Eve's Threefold Temptation

KEY VERSE: "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat," Genesis 3:6.

While standing in line at a fast food restaurant, I noticed a display of hot apple pies. I had not intended to order a hot apple pie but the smell was tempting. They looked so good in the display. When it came time to place my order, I could not resist temptation and ordered a hot apple pie.

The Bible does not say what kind of fruit was on the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Whatever fruit it was, Adam and Eve were forbidden by God to eat of it. They were told the penalty of disobeying God's instruction was death. Eve looked at the fruit on the tree and saw that it brought forth fruit that was good to eat. It was also pleasant to the eyes. In addition Eve desired to have the knowledge the tree would provide. All this temptation was too much for her to resist, and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit. When she did, she gained carnal knowledge and was no longer innocent of sin. As a sinner, Eve became accountable to God for her condition. The price of satisfying temptation is greater than the pleasure sin brings.

JUST A THOUGHT: Sin carries not only consequences but also accountability.
